  • silliest thing you have done,,,

Evening guys not good for flying up here , wind (gales more like) and rain
Was thinking , maybe some will frown against this topic but I was thinking what was the most stupid thing you have done , if you dare tell that is . My one was a good and bad one . Learning to fly my old Nexus and was hovering about foot off of the ground when the thing went well pair shaped and basicaly burried itself in the turf . Hmm what happened there . Id stupidly forgot to put the screw in the head of the servo to hold the arm on to the elevator servo . Big mistake .. Never did it a again and allways check things over before you go fly. The good thing was when I headed home the wife's waters had broken and we had a lovely wee girl . Just as well id crashed or she would have been driving her self

Well i think i can beat that,
When i got my first heli 15 years ago a concept 30SR she was great i charged her up took it up my local club and has some friends sort her out and set the engine up spot on,
Now i don't 3 more tanks and i was well happy then my dad wanted to go home but i wanted to fly more.
So as soon as i got home i went down the local field where i was aloud to fly, started her up and started doing 8s to the left of me and as she turned to face me she started climbing with a slight turn to the right and she kept going, Yes you guessed it the battery was flat and she was off on her own with full tank of fuel and gaining height.
All i could do was watch her climb higher and keep doing right turns and by the time she crossed the road she was almost out of site.

The only thing i could think of was run home and phone cranfield airport as it was heading there way,

Never to be seen again, so remember to charge your batteries boys

Maybe this idea is silly but you would think some one would invent a solar panel canopy screen to fit in to the heli which would top up your battery all the time, then no more dead batterys. seems to be a big part of crashes other than pilot error....

I bought a Cougar off of an ex Ripmax display pilot, it did not have a scratch on it (not even a bad landing) in the 4 years he had owned it. I took it up the field and set it up on my FF9, I then checked all the controls surfaces for correct operation and proceed to fly it. On take off the left wing was low so I applied right aileron to correct it but the left wing dropped even more the more I applied right aileron, I realized something was wrong (aileron reversed) but I could not control it (ever tried flying holding the TX upside down???) it went in on its first flight with its first crash.

I dunno what I was thinking as I had check for correct direction just before take off DOH DOH DOH DOH DOH DOH DOH!!!!!!

i had just repaired my mini pred. it was a new flybar, main shaft, blades, blade grips and feathering spindal.

as i was taking it apart to add the new parts i realised my jesus bolt was really bent, so i just discarded it in my toolbox, thinking i will have anouther new one to replace it!. it was then left dismantled for a few days while i waited for the new parts to arrive. when they arrived and i fitted them all i was really happy that it all went smoothly!. so i took it out to the garden and up she went and then down she came again!

and u probably guess i forgot about the jeasus bolt!!!

so this ended in buying what i had just fitted about 10 mins previously all over again!!!

                cheers,
                Tom

Fourth flight on my knight sport two weeks ago. Loads of rolls, inverted eights, stalls turns. Coming down the flight line, roll almost inverted and lose control. Goes in at full tilt inverted. Lots of damage to the electrics. Would appear the battery disconected in flight. The thing is I should have known better. Ade told me when I went for lessons to zip tie the thing in place and not use velcro straps. Lesson..... listen to the experienced, they've been through this shit before.

Would need to be a massive canopy to give anywhere near enough power, otherwise would just be feeding the battery milliamps and not achieving anything.

FCUK wish it hadent... at full throtle. and promptly spat the entire clutch on the floor.... Damm good job i had hold of the blade grip,,,

Rebuilt my Shuttle, after a crash a little while ago, and just took it up the field and started to fly it, hahdn't checked the pitch range, and it didn't have any low pitch in, so when I dropped the stick it wouldn't come down, eventualy lost it completly and had to replace all the bits I had just changed again.......

Moral of this story (as so many others in this thread) Check the bloomin thing before you fly it...
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

                          And a DX8 too

to many fast chargers of the rx battery causing it to go faulty, it went with about 1/2 throttle and left trim and smashed into the floor.

                            morale of the story:

                            cycle your batteries
If You Cant Dazzle' Em With Brilliance, Baffle' Em With emmmm you know the rest

Flying at a local field i used some time ago, i had a couple of flights with the raptor, and enjoyed myself, landed it, got my Kalt Baron out to fly that, changed the model setting on the radio, filled her up, switched on the power and fired her up, Big Mistake.
Changed the model on the TX. forgot to change the crystal!!
started at half to full throttle, lucikly i had hold of the head, although the clutch wouldnt agree, did not take long to fry that.
Moral of the story, as usual, check all is working before you start the engine.!!

Oh yes, one more mistake years ago, got married, still paying for that one
