  • Feather Shaft Bolt Removal

I have managed to round out the hex head on one of the bolts in a Trex 700 feather shaft... The one on the inside of the blade grip!

So, any bright ideas how on earth i can get this blighter out!!

    Cheers

Try an imperial size allen key - just a tad over metric size and see if you can tease it in enough to get a grip.

If the blade grips are metal, you could cautiously add some localised heat as well to soften any thread lock on the threads and loosen the bond between the bolts and the shaft.

Total nightmare. I ended up having to drill one out and learnt my lesson after that. When assembling locite the first four threads and tighten hard. Then on the way out use a gas soldering iron to heat it for like 30 seconds then it always comes out without rounding.

Thanks chaps, you have all confirmed what i thought would be the best way.

At least its a probably the largest part of the heli to work on!!

            Thanks again

Battery drill on reverse with a bit in just larger than the rounded hole. It usually snags and either snaps the bolt of or unscrews it - either way it comes out.
