Took my son to Headcorn airfield yesterday for his tandem skydive, as we had to wait "hours" for the sky to clear so he could jump,
I wondered over to the heli office and asked a very nice young lady
if there was any chance of a lesson in the R22.
She said they were fully booked for the day
but may be able to squeeze me in after lunch.
Cut a long story short she did and I ended up having a lesson.
Had a good flight and was amazed how sensitive the controls were and how hard it was just to keep it in a hover, (10 ft off the ground)
Forward flight and one right hand banked turn felt a lot easier;
I found the pilot telling me what I tell my students on buddy lead, "gentle" small movements on the sticks etc etc.. lol
He said he had an rc heli for a while, T-rex600 I think, but he kept crashing so gave it up,
After the flight I tried to do a deal, ie. give him rc heli lessons in return for his lessons but he declined,, can't think why,,
Anyway what started out as fairly boring day ended up for me a good day, unlike my son, he never did get a chance to jump, he was well pi**ed off
