  • What a pain. RJX flybarless head. Help please.

I have tried fitting an RJX flybarless head to my TRex 450Pro but the blade holders lock up every time I tighten the bolts into the feathering shaft.
I have tried 1, 2 and 3 shims behind the thrust bearings but no difference.

    Anyone got any tips please.

    Post Edited Tuesday 14th.

Just to go on further:--Another day wasted today.
I have tried every combination of shims. Including no shims.
I have used an Align feathering shaft, rather than the RJX supplied one.
I have used longer and shorter bolts, all to no avail.
The blade holders have been off an on at least 40 times and I'm ready to throw it all out of the window.

The Align head might be a bit delicate on the blade holder ball link hole which is why I am trying something different, but at least they assemble correctly and easily every time.

To make it worse the RJX head does not use the standard Align 3G push rods. I have had to find a pair that are 10mm shorter.
That means every time I need to replace a rod I have to buy the Align 3G ones for the stronger ball links and also a complete set of flybar head push rods.

Whoever designed this head at RJX wants shooting.
Why can't it be assembled without shims like the Align.
Why don't they include a drawing.
Why don't they tell you that the push rods are not standard.
Why don't they include some pushrods if they are not standard.
    Really brassed off.
Never again will I be touching anything RJX

plus try a different spindle, I had some that were made slightly too small and they bound up on my 450's standard head.
          All the best

Wow. Is it the actual RJX head or the copy version that can be bought for $14 from HK?

I know many people who use the 450 RJX head with no issues so not sure where it is going wrong here. I assume you are using the Pro feathering shaft?

Original RJX from Midland Heli yesterday.
Used original RJX feathering shaft, then spoke to Rob at Midland Heli who went home to get his own 450 with RJX head. He had used an Align Pro feathering shaft so I tried one myself.
                No joy.
He measured all rods and realised his had shorter rods to the blade holders but he can't remember ever buying any, must have used some he had.
I have setup exactly as Rob has his.

Really brassed off, wasted a nice day when I could have been flying. Worked on this since 9:00 this morning thinking it would be up and running by 11 'ish for a good day's fly, still at it.

Looks like some more Align grips and £55 wasted on RJX head.

About the only thing I can suggest is maybe sending it to someone and ask them to have a look. Or send back to Fastlad and ask them to put it together to see where you are going wrong or if the parts are faulty. I'd be happy to take a look for you.

Ok, I got the HK cheap knock of the other day, a I haven't got much to loose at $14!
Had the same problem with the blades locking up when I tightened the feathering bolts, the problem turned out to be the spacer that is used between the dampeners and the blade grips. The spacer have a step in them that either cause the grip bearings to bind as it rides on the inner and outer race, and if you turned it around it would contact the hub and not the dampers!
I found a new spacer with some spare shafts I also got from HK, they only have the narrow diameter without he step so it only contacts the inner race of the blade grip bearing and the dampers. Problem solved!
I don't have any shims fitted at the moment, but may add 1.

                    Regards
                    Alou
