  • Throttle Jockey

    Calling all electronic wizards.
Just fitted a TJ Pro to my Agusta using the exsisting sensor from a GV-1 - I was told the only difference is that the red senor light is on all the time untill it passes the magnet when it goes out. This is indeed the case .
Hope to fly it tonight - anyone out there done this and flown it -would like to hear from you.

    Dave,

I would have thought it would work. All the sensor is giving is a 1 or 0 output.

My old GV-1 that I had installed on the Fury, used a light sensor that I built rather than drilling the fan, and it worked fine.
    Cheers

I am about to buy another Futaba GV-1, what do you guys think of the "throttle Jockey" in comparison to the GV-1, I also notice you can buy a auto glow for the throttle jockey pro now {helps with idle}.
I would not mind saving a few Dollars/Pounds if the jockey does the same job.
      Cheers

Just to follow up on first post- Flew the Agusta tonight and the TJ performed beautifully as expected .
I had a gv-1 in the heli but changed because of the results the TJ gave on my Fury .
I like the TJ better than the GV -1 -- Much simpler to set up and once installed you can do all the adjustments from the Tx.
This is a bonus in a scale model when the radio is well hidden in the fuz.

G-Dave, do you need a extra channel in the receiver to do setup on?
            Cheers

You use one channel on the rx. I use Aux 2 on the 9Zap and work it on a three position switch . In the middle - no gov.
Either side switch gives you your two speeds. The value of these speeds is adjusted by the ATV on Aux 2 . Set up is done by toggling this switch to enter set up moving the throttle stick through it's travel and Toggling again to confirm set up. You can also set them up on the idle up switches if you want to.
I prefere this method as I can select idle up for 3D and switch between the speeds to give a relaxed 3D and a extream 3D.
If you fly PCM then don't forget to Set the Failsafe on Aux 2.

I run my TJ Pro in manual mode but now that I have the FF9 I plan to migrate it over to the Tx controlled mode.

The difference between the sensor install on th e TJ and the GV1 is that the sensor works in the oposite sence. i.e. the magnet is back to front btu like you say this should not cause any problems as the govenor still gets the speed pulse.

                  hope that helps

Migrated my TJ Pro over to control from my FF9 on Friday evening. Simple to do making use of the excellent instructions on the Model Avionics homepage (www.modelavionics.com).
Also found a couple of calculators, 1 and Excel spreadsheet and 1 a windows app. Both very useful in working out EPA settigns for specific RPM's.
