  • Flying between the rain

    Hi

Not able to attend 3D masters so went up the field for a few hours consolation.

Flew the Shuttle and after a tracking problem my final flight of the day was great. She flew so smoothly I was well chuffed.

Only problem was I dinged the Trex.

Hit the ground and the ensuing boom strike has cut the tail gear box in half

Looks like the usual shafts, boom, tail gear, blades and possibly tail servo.

Amazingly there was no head damage. Must be a first for me, usually have to replace the rotor holders.

And what you may ask was the cause?

    Electrical glitch?
    Radio failure?
    Component malfunction?
    Bird strike?
    Fly passing wind?

Nope........good old fasioned pilot error. The idiot on the sticks decided to end the flight and as she came into land I pushed the Elevator in the wrong direction. Total and utter brain fade. I felt a complete pratt and mad for damaging the Trex which is now flying superbly (or was).

Still I flew 5 flights and also actually flew someone elses Heli for the first time.

Steve's Sceadu 50. WOW, that thing was super smooth and only makes me want to buy one today (yer right).

Thanks Steve, you've got guts allowing me to have a go.

Sorry about the length of post but with the usual crowd currently attending the 3D masters, I'm having a go at some exposure.

    Cheers

        Cheers Steve

        Sorry about the Airskipper.

Hope damage is not too bad.

I might have got away with the Rex myself. Only need to purchase a feathering spindle, tail belt and blades although I haven't checked the Gyro and servo yet

Thanks Bug. As luck would have it I have spares from the last crash

        Cheers

Then trexes are tough little so n so's I keep denting mine and with a little work they soon come back.

Had a crash last weekend repaired it (so I thought) took it up for a flight this weekend and one of the ball links broke mid air and down she came again , I should have checked even more closely. Luckily landed on a bush so only damage is some of the control rods on the head and the feathering spindle. just got to get some spare ball links and im there ready for next week.
          All the best
          Tony.

            Hi Tony

Yes I was amazed that all the damage was to the tail section.

The head this time survived (minus feathering spindle and main mast which I will test and replace as a matter of course).

Went nose in but didn't break any of the head parts which I do as a matter of course on the Trex. Must check the rotor holder bearings and have now got an oportunity to replace the bearings in the tail with some from Modelfixings.

            Cheers
