  • Quick of Japan EP8-V2

    Hi Guys,

Have any of you seen one of these or, more importantly, flown one?

    http://rc-expert.com/product-package.php?pid=432

I'm not worried about this particular package or seller, just the heli really. I'm looking to add a small electric to my growing fleet, but a t-rex450 is a bit too small, the 600 too big (and expensive). This seems a good size for what I'm after.... Any comments? Or any other suggestions? I know about the Swift, but again it's a little expensive, and I've read Ashley's review of the Hurricane (which is an option)....

All the advice I have ever received from this site has always been spot on, so opinions please !!!

    Cheers
    Simon

Hi,I've got the quick sweet 16 which is of similar size-use's 8s set up and flys a treat!!!-this and the q8 are basically 30 size heli's-parts are readily available-either from japan or U.S -tough machines!!- .The Hurricane is also a good machine to consider-use's either a 6s setup or 2 2100mah lipos in series-again it's basically a 30 size heli and in fact following a crash with mine while getting clever(inverted at 50ft !!)-all that was damaged was the main blades and rear u/carriage- the main shaft and spindle was'nt even damaged !!!!!,. Spares are cheep-on apar with align,
parts only took 4 days to arrive from trex450.co.uk - while waiting for spares, used a set of blades from my nexus 30 and spare u/cart from 600E-all fits nice and flys really well-pitch range is +/-10 and I reckon with a good set of carbons will really shift( standard blades are wood at £7.99 !)....

Look also at the 3dx-500/hdx-500. This can run on two 3s1-2100 packs in series. It is basically a hirobo lepton copy, with many parts interchangeable.
We must wait for Robgt who is testing one for trextuning. Its a sub .30 size running 425 blades.
3s1p2100 is the most popular pack size on the planet, so often two of those work out cheaper than the equivalent. Plus if one cell goes puff you only lost half the power pack.
about 70 quid for the pair of revo packs. That is only a bit more than they were asking for a good 450 size kokam pack earlier this year.

        Ok, the 3dx-500.....

        http://rc-expert.com/product-package.php?pid=463

This looks good value as well. Both of the links I have posted show a 14.8 pack is used. Do I take it the the motor / esc will run either a 14.8v pack or 2x 11.1v packs? Or would it require a different esc?

Are there any problems running this size heli with small 9g servos? I know the hurricane uses full size (I think!)

Any problems with spares for this heli? As 3dx says above, EP8 parts seem readily available.

        Thanks
        Simon

I've got a Quick (Japan) EP8 although mine is not a V2. It's a nice little heli and flys well. Although it's very docile with the stock setup, it 3ds quite well with a longer flybar and green Raptor paddles. It's easier to fly and less twitchy than a Trex or Mini Titan size, but doesn't quite give the "full size" feel that a Logo 10 or Swift size can offer.
Virtually everything is metal and the quality and fit of everything is very good. The disadvantage of all that aluminium is that it doesn't hold up well to crashes. Lots of parts will bend and distort if you have a bump (Speaking form experience here).
The European distributer is www.mfis.net and I have had no problems ordering from them, although I notice they are out of stock of kits at the moment.

Do not confuse Quick of Japan with Quick Woldwide in the US. I've got a QWW EP10 and I gave up building it because it was so badly made.

I was wondering what the deal was here. I take that the "Quick" companys are not all related? Obviously Quick UK stuff tends to be good quality, but you're suggesting that Quick WW is not...

For 3dx-500 backup in the UK:

these guys seem to be new

these guys have been arround a a while. mixed reports, can take a while to deliver sometimes, and have a reputation for not answering the phone. Always delivered my stuff though. The electrics they do are cheap end.

The servos to use are mini servos I think rather than micro servos. eg HS81MG / HS85MG or Futaba S3150 digitals like they use in glider wings on the ailerons. Maybe Robgt will tell us what will fit.

Theres a lot of 3dx-500 stuff including build thread by finless at www.helifreak.com - not looked at that yet myself.

This what I understand the history is:
The company that is now Quick Worldwide was originally the US distributer for Quick of Japan, but at some point they started manufacturing their own stuff which were basically copies of the Japan helis. The common heritage is evident in the kits. I don't know where, if at all, Quick UK fits in.

My experience with the QWW kit was not good. Whilst the quality of the individual parts was generally OK, the build was extremely difficult with many parts the wrong size and many instances of bad design. In the end I gave up on it, partly because I got fed up with fighting with it and partly because it became obvious it was too heavy to fly well. It would appear from the general tone of posts on other forums that my experience was not an isolated one.

My Quick of Japan kit, whilst looking very simillar, went together with no problems, building into a very decent heli.
