  • Sceadu clutch

hey i was doing ground work with my sceadu yesterday just trying controls and stuff, and when i filled up again and started it id left the throttle a bit high and it started and i started to feel the clutch trying to turn the shaft, i got a mate very quickly to turn the throttle down as id left the transmitter too far away (LESSON LEARNED).
I was just wondering how you would tell if id burnt the clutch out, note that i started if after and if still enaged the rotors fine and up to full speed. Any thoughts???

    Hi Paddy,

I wouldnt be too worried about it to be honest, most model helicopter clutches these days are pretty robust and the sceadu one is no exception.

If you look carefully at the frames of the model can you see any dark grey powder deposits around the base of the clutch? if there is some but not an excessive amount then it is most likely fine but if they are coated in the stuff then there is a good chance the clutch liner has gone, which will need to be changed along with a new clutch.

When you run it up again next time give it a short sharp burst of throttle from tick over, if the engine just starts to scream straight away the clutch is slipping and it will need to be changed but if as I suspect it will just spin up the main and tail rotors pretty quick without screaming then the clutch is fine.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

hey thanks very much, i feel a lot better about it now, i checked for those deposits and there was hardly any. I am having my first proper flight with it tommorow and i will do the test that you suggest.
Im probably just being paranoid as im new to all this.
      Sincere thanks and many regards

        Hi Paddy,

No problem my friend, its always better to ask than to be worried about it.

Good luck with the flight tomorrow, let us know how you get on.

        Cheers,

        Pete.
