  • ....and my luck just aint getting any better

went to the field last night, took my Raptor flew it a couple of times, and I wasnt happy that the curves were set up right, so a friend of mine who is a far better pilot than eye offered to help.

we were getting somewhere then during a tictoc the heli made a very strange noise we bought it down checked it over and we had a theory it may be the new canopy drumming with the air as there was no holes for the air to escape this was because we could find no other problem.

anyway he took it off without the canopy flew it around and all was fine, he gradually built up chucking it around no noise, started working on the curves again, then during a flip, it made the noise again but this time it was followed, by basically the heli exploding in mid air as the head flew one way and the rest just dropped.

It was a plastic head and it looks, if you look at pic 0008, like the plastic just gave way. it must have been moving which was throwing the blades out making the noise.

next time I go for the metal head, plus ill never buy second hand again unless I know the source.

I'm just glad there were very few people there and it was far enough away not to be a problem.

so unfortunately im down to 1 ic chopper, now do I get a Titan and use this for spare parts or just knock the hell out the Knight

That was the infamous Woof and Poof.

Most people get away with the Woof, looks like you were unlucky enough to suffer the final consequence of the Poof.

Raptor V1's where very prone to this problem, V2 less so, but not immune. Never seen a fully rational, and well thought out, description of the cause. But my spin on it is that its a build-up of slop in the control system that allows the blades to go massively out of track under certain conditions, aggrivated by certain blades (blade COG ?). It always happens when you go through zero pitch. . . . . .

We had a recent case at our field, it turned out to be slop in the washout base, owner replaced that, and the problem went away.

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

              What caused that muffler damage?
Looks like it landed on that side on some stony ground maybe?

              Sad!

And this is why its such a crime that after all this time and the many thousands sold,Thunder Tiger are too tight to supply a metal centre hub as standard

when the head left the body it fell directly onto our runway which is why as you say the muffler has gravel rash. couldnt land in the rest of the field.

                        Fixxer

Yes it did let go in idleup 2 dont know the revs, either going into or out of inverted, but I don't blame him at all the part was faulty/damaged or just plain worn out.

                        Goto10.

Its pretty well damaged, I started pricing up repairs from what I had seen of the damage got to about £60 plus need a new muffler, unless I can weld it LOL. but what I was thinking was rebuild the body, and stick the knight 3d head on it from my origional knight, I only need a feathering spindle and flybar to fix that one. i'm told it works fairly well from some and not so well by others.

If I do I may as well also upgrade it to a push pull system and put the metal pitch arm on it.

tw obits that did get clobbered were the AR7000 reciever and the tail servo case knackered on both of them, I know I can sort the servo, but is there anyone that can cost effectively repair the reciever.
                        All the best

Take it back to the model shop you bought it from and ask them if they will send it off to Spektrum for crash repair.
I know of one that came back fixed... erm... free

Think the guy that developed the 2.4 ghz stuff is at the masters doing some lectures or the like, if you've had no joy and are going to the masters then maybe tracking him down and asking his opinion may be worth a shot.
