  • LAST FLIGHT

during my control line days we never had a LAST FLIGHT we always said "two more flights!" then stop after the first one! because according to SODS LAW you would always crash on your last flight!!!

Well today after a rather crap days flying when none of my manouvres looked liked what they were supposed to, i decided to have ONE LAST FLIGHT to cheer myself up and not practise any new stunts, just keep within my SAFE ZONE so to speak!?

you guessed it? during a death dive with my 3D i just lost it on the way down, and now im writing this whilst on a break from stripping it down to assess the damage!!!

So my question is why do we alwats crash on the last flight of the day? or am i being paranoid????

    last Flight

If you only take one model to the field then by definition a fatal crash will always be the last flight -- IPSO FACTO !!!!

If it's not fun, your not doing it right !!

      Hi Chappers,

I know what you mean, I have that trouble too sometimes, and its always on the last flight of the day :?

I think as Dave said allot of it is to do with sods law but mostly I think its a phsycological thing that we subconciously take more risks and are more nervous than we were during the previous flights, its something to do with the thought of taking the model home in one piece at the end of the day

      Cheers,

      Pete.

Sorry to hear the news Kieth I reckon the writing was on the wall for crap day for most of us......My glow stick packed up on me, now on charge mind you its about 1mth since I last charged it.

Then my starter burnted out and then I leave my changed battery at the field.....

What's the damage to the 3DNT ? as Pete say's I reckon its sods law at its worst. Hope you get it fix soon..........
        Cheers

            I Just did that too....

Ive just got back from the regular monthly committee meeting for the club which was for the first time this year held at the field so we could have a bit of a fly while we were there.

I had just had a great flight with the 70 I finally got round to changing out the old 9202's for a 9350 on the pitch and 9252's on the cyclics. As expected this made a world of difference to the way it flew.

Flushed with my success I grabed one of the 50's for a bit of a blast and to try a new 9254 on the tail, it too flew very well for the first three quarters of a tank, that 9254 makes a big difference over the 9450 which was on there previously, when suddenly I had total control over the model with the exception of the elevator 8O it flipped inverted, I pumped in some negative pitch, it flipped right way up, I swapped to positive pitch, it flipped again, so back I was to negative pitch and then it flipped once more, this time it didn't quite make it all the way over to right way up and went in on its nose 8O

After a quick check over the damage appears to be boom, blades, flybar, feathering spindle, skids, radio tray and a stripped main gear

Ah well it could have been worse, it came down only a matter of about 2 or 3 foot from where a cow was stood and I didnt have a BBQ with me

            Cheers,

            Pete.

Yesterday was my first proper flight with a heli (sceadu 30). First flight went ok, had training gear and everything, couldnt hover for the life of me, just basically trying to keep it hitting the ground level and try to control it a little. Anyways, second flight fuel pump failed while refilling (a manual pump!!, im sure someone was trying to tell me something here) and i eventually syphoned some in by sucking on the pipe to the silencer. Started up, flew a little bit, got a bit of wind, went a bit too high and suddenly the angle for viewing it was all wrong and she went in sideways. Ive just finished stripping her down and damage is 2 pitch control levers, bent rotorhead spindle, bent flybar(straightened now by hand) and a broken blade grip. How the rotor blades didnt break i dont know.
Im pretty sure that the shop hadnt set up the tracking and it doesnt look like the blades have been balanced so that wasnt helping the flight (they said they had set it all up for me) so this time im gunnu adjust the tracking and balance the blades. As for the rotorhead spindle, its a 2nd hand heli, whos to say it wasnt bent all along??
Anyways that certainly wasnt the best last flight of the day
As a sidenote, what flight characteristics would incorrect tracking, unbalanced blades and a bent rotorhead spindle cause??

                Paddy,

I would think that the effect on the flight characteristics would be limited to the heli vibrating quite a lot both when running the rotor speed up on the ground and in the hover. It would be best to have a trusted mate who knows what he's talking about check it over with you.

If you had all of the above wrong, your heli would need to be renamed
