Be careful, the Dx7 has a linier voltage reg that heats up to disipate excess voltage, unlike a switching one that does not. The voltage reg in the Dx7 does not have a heat sink, so you can damage your Tx.

I used a 2700mah nimh in mine from overlander, lasted for weeks and weeks between charges.

      Rctintin has a point...but...

I use a lipo in my DX7 have done for over 1 year

You can use Sony Eneloop cells as well they have extremely low self-discharge

I too run Sony eneloops in my DX6i. They are perfect, no problems at all.

If you slap one of these switching regulators in place of the original linear one you can put anything you like in there up to 30V.

            3.3V switching voltage regulator - 7803 replacements
Improving the runtime of the Spektrum DX6
Even with the original NiMh you'd get better mileage as it doesn't draw so much current as the linear regulator.

That said, I've read that people are getting away with just slapping a 3s lipo in and not getting overheating of the original lipo.
Not sure I'd be happy doing it that way though.

Another option would be to use step down diodes but that robs you of volts when the lipo is running low.

            P.S.
If you use the diodes you can't use the charge socket on the Tx. You have to charge externally.

              keep it up 4longer

i dont like the idear of a li-po in my transmiter the 1500mah works just as good fly all weekend if you pull the end of a futarba female chage lead off that fits in the jr and dx7 mimh battery then you can charge and cycle the batt IT WORKS FOR ME

I've been running a lipo in my dx7 for well over a year now. Have also forgotten to switch it off a few times and the low voltage alarm sounded to remind me of this.. probably over 5 hours at a time, and still no problems.

hi there I'm using a 2200mah high model tx battery from brc hobbies in my dx7 been using it for about a year with no tx problems and i even left my tx on once and drained the battery totally had to give it a quick charge on nimh setting as my charger just kept saying that two cells where knackerd still works fine, if you do use a lipo you'll have to get into the secret menu and change the battery cut off level to about 10.5v

You can change the alarm in the service menu.

I set mine at 11v as it only takes an hour or so to drop to 10v. Dont go less than that as the discharge rate is very quick.
