I got a Kipor IG2000 from KMS (see Dashiks's thread) It ran great but the inverter board failed last week. The Kipor is just a shade over 6 months old with about 4 or 5 gallons through it. Its never been near its output limit, running only a couple HP server supplies and 2 x 300w I-Chargers

Now something like this I would expect several years in domestic use + I thought our consumer rights would have given me cover for at least a year...not according to KMS.

Hi, I purchased a Kipor IG2000 generator from you on Nov 8th Invoice no
29109. I have a problem with the 240V output in that the Red overload
protection light is on and get no output to 240v sockets. The manual says to
stop the engine and re-start but this makes no difference and the red light
remains on. I still get power to the 12v DC socket. The generator has about
5 gallons through it and being only being used to power a Dual server power
supply so is being run well within specs.

        Exactly what happened.
The generator was started as normal and I powered up the PSU and went away
for a few minutes. When I returned I observed the PSU was no longer running
and the Red Overload protection light was Flashing on the Generator so I
disconnected the PSU and then switched the Generator off.
I quickly checked the manual which says it should Re-set itself but when I
restart the Output warning light is now permantly on (Not flashing) and
there is no 240V power. The server PSU is still functioning correctly so
        something is amiss.

Can you please advice on how I proceed.

        Thanks very much Brian

        Hi there

This has had a overload and you will need to buy a new module board which
are on the ebay shop. We do not warrant the boards.

        My reply.
Hi Keiron, this was not the answer I was expecting and am very
dissapointed in your reply and will be seeking further advice on this.

        Brian

        And KMS's..
That's fine. You can seek advice we have 23 years experience and have independent engineers. Who no these machines inside out. this machine has been designed with a inverter board in it. And they have also designed and patient ed a overload system so company's no once its been overloaded. And once the red light comes on its had a overload. And the only way this can being resolved is buy putting a new board inside. This is 240.00 usually we sell them for 180.00 has a good will suggester. This is what they cost me and we have had this many times. Even been to court and proven this is why there is a red light on and you have no power.

        Regards kms

Damn Brian that's unlucky. But I'm unfortunately not surprised by KMS attitude and reply. Seems not far off my experience from the sounds of it.

That Keiron sounds like a right T*w*a*t. Bet he's not that brave in person. Your pretty much looking at the price of a new generator at that price for the board. I thought the genny had overload protection anyway. But I'd be amazed if you managed to overload it. I ran both my PSU's off mine and that the 1Kw IG1000 and had no problems with it and its still running. Actually ran it the other day to make sure it was still working and to stop it drying out etc.

Never heard of K&S but I'd certainly not spend any of my cash with them after reading those replies. Yes, he does sound like a t*w*a*t!

Same here. Just idle your car and charge.

I charged my two 5000mah packs @ 6a each in about 30-40mins on my 1.6 diesel fiesta. No probs.

Also charge one 5000mah pack at 10A (2C) without issues.

I have been using two of the older 240V alternator design Honda EX1000's for some time now for general field work and camping and all without any problems. The later EU10i Honda's, which have the inverter boards are more prone to failure but at least the inverter boards are available - all be it nearly £200.00 a time.

The difference in weight is not that great either and the saving of 5kg over the 22kg dry weight of the EX1000 did not seem worth the extra risk of inverter board failure.

Agreed, but it has a 1kw 12v power supply which makes it a fantastic tool for charging lipos in a field, I see it as a generator you can drive to the field. If I was an electric heli fan, it would be on my list for that reason alone. For me a car is lower on my important list than the helis
