Well after all of the recent thread about range testing the DX8, I did some testing of my own today.
Models in test:
Flasher (Trex) 500, with AR8000 RX & TM1000 telemetry unit.
Trex 450 Pro, with AR6210
Both running in DSMX mode, both have had their RX installed according to this website: 2.4GHz Rx Installation Primer - Australian R/C Helicopters Online: arcHELI V EC135
Both tested with TX antenna pointing straight up (which interestingly, made a large difference to the results of the range test). Both helis pointing tail in.
Test conditions were dry and sunny in a large, tree lined park.
Results were surprising:
Flasher 500: range test results were 47 large paces (so around 50 metres I guess)
Tex 450 Pro: range test results were 65+ large paces. I got to the edge of the park and could not find the limit before I ran out of room.
I checked the flight log after each of my 4 packs on the Flasher 500 - no holds or lost frames reported.
I guess I got a good one.
One interesting question that I have for others who have experienced problems, is whether they were running in DSM2 mode or DSMX? I know nothing about the technology behind radios, but I am slightly suspicious of the reasons why Spektrum released this new "fantastic" protocol after similar marketing claims were made when DSM2 were launched.
