  • tsk tsk, i seem tohave written off my 600le

It would appear that it is possible to do quite a lot of damage if while doing flips and the model is inverted and the motor goes sick that the blades will actually stop.

This quite severely affects the aerodynamic characteristics resulting in every carbon fibre conponent being damage in someway...

Although I could repair (botch) someparts, and I do have some spares, to replace everything thats broken with new bits, its actually cheaper to get a new bare-bones model.

Never a good post to read, but looks like commen sense says 'buy a new heli'. It's just gods way of saying - you deserve it after such a traumatic event.

Good luck with the rebuild & what have we leanrt from it.
You can teach a man everything. Apart from experience.

Been there... binned my Knight sport a few years ago it cost just over £200 to fix.... new airframe was 160.... I did the sums after it was flying again....

I have to say when i collected it from the long grass i knew i had done it properly there was two pices the heli and the head.... it had bust the main bearings out of both side frames and the head mainshaft and bearing blocks were totally seperate.... Most damage i have ever inflicted on a heli in one go..!

The price of a bare bones heli is 350

I've done both sides frames (80), the base (20), the boom (20), torque tube (10), blades (50), grips (40), canopy (40). Thats 260 before I start to look at all the little things. Probably not 90 quid more, but I reckon getting that way.

Fortuantly all the radio gear and engine are fine.

Ill mull over it over the weekend and talk to the local model shop on Monday.

..thought the base was about £12, no need for a carbon boom.. so ,say, £10.. a cheapo HK canopy or even a nice flasher... go fbl so RJX head instead of grips and stuff.. see I'm saving you money already!!! lol

I remember planting mine on it's head and shoving the mainshaft through the fuel tank once after ripping the bearing blocks out of the frame - that was messy... <g>

I've got some plastic blades grips in the box (do they really make a difference?) And an ali boom and a spare canopy, so if the side frames are reparable, l can knock 180 off the bill. Which is a big difference.

However, I repared the frames before and they broken at the next weakest point from the previous repair.

If the smack is that bad, then it seems nuts not to buy a new kit. I'd then break down the old one and keep all the good bits. You'd be surprised how useful these odds and ends become!

At least with a new kit you know you've not got any broken bits hiding, and shouldn't have any issues getting it in the air with your existing gear

..repairing frames is an art form that depends on exactly where the damage is located. Generally just glueing a piece of carbon across a crack isn't strong enough. When I've done it to get back in the air quickly then I usually also drill and bolt through the cross piece and try to incorporate any of the usual bolts there with longer ones..With my carnage rate I have to do these things. Clone frames are another option or secondhand frames from folk doing gasser conversions. Clone carbon frames are usually just as functional although I'm more wary of clone alloy parts (usually softer quality)

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking. And with this crash i seem to have broken lots of little things such as 7 different linkages, which I've not done before. Could be a sign that theres even more wrong that i havent found yet.

In one spot id previously done exactlly that and the new split is where the splint i'd glued ends. Makes splinting a second time harder.

I've got a raft of 600 part's . If you want to revive rather than replace stick a part's list up and i'll see what i've got and pop them in the post . I'm sure others can have a dig round to . I like rebuilding things that people say are dead .

Thanks. Cost isnt too much of an issue. I have a savins account for just such things. As I havent broken anything major for a while the pot is looking quite healthy.

I crashed my 600 last year and it cost £260 to fix and that was with some G10 frames I got hold of for 50 quid, dont think it had carbon boom either, what gives me the hump is replacing the blades and canopy, hope you are back in the air soon.............
