    Hi All

Well, I do not want to bring the mood of the forum down, but I thought that I would give a quick update on my chemo - IT SUCKS! and to offer some free advice:

well two bits of free advice:

    1. If you have not already, BUY CRITICAL LIFE INSURANCE
    2. Again, if you have not already, BUY PRIVATE HEALTH CARE

Cancer affects one in three, and believe me when I thought yeah yeah, never happen to me, 39yrs old, no history of cancer in either family, fit (was) and healthy (was).

Do yourself a favour - get insurance! Or go down to your local Haematology ward and see the huge volume and range of people with all sorts of cancer : sobering!

..... and make those little £1 donations to McMillan when you buy something from ebay etc.

    ATB
    Gareth

Keep positive Gareth, I know where you are at. 6 years ago I had cancer and went through 6 weeks of treatment and 12 operations, but have come out the other side a stronger person.

I was lucky that I had private medical as if not I doubt I would be here as the wait to see the consultant on NHS was 12 weeks, Bupa saw me in 3 days! However, just 6 months prior to getting cancer (I was only 33) I had refused critical illness cover, that refusal was an expensive mistake that I regret immensely!

Whatever little consolation it is: a lot of the crappy feeling after the first doses of chemo is due to the amount of killed cancer cells your body has to shift..makes you feel toxic, nauseous and depressed, but is worth hanging onto as a positive sign. And stay positive, mate...it will make a big, big difference in the fight.

Sounds like you had a rough deal there- all suspected cancers are now seen in 2 weeks or less by the NHS and there are specifically designed referral pathways and clinics for this. Critical illness yes, private healthcare- not unless you can afford the luxury.

hang in there Gareth mate- it's hard work and not easy to deal with.

In fairness, it was suspected as a polyp in the mucous membrane of the nasal passage and therefore classed as non-urgent. Turned out to be a very aggressive squamous cell carcinoma which spread rapidly to the lymph nodes.
