  • Fbl 450

    What's a good, no messing about, FBL 450 ?

    ie good quality, spares/kit/pack availability.

Other pluses would be: the ability to run 350mm blades; 6S; not being (only) supplied with a rubbish FBL controller; not being tied to obscure servos/packs/motors/etc.

I'd have expected a T-Rex450 to be the default option, and a Rave 450 to be a candidate, but the above seem to count against them.

I have both a Trex450 se v2 FBL & a FBL Phoenixtech TT360 (upto 360mm blades). Both RJX FBL head. I use the TT most of the time.

What's the RJX FBL head like ?

The problem I saw with T-rex 450s was that you couldn't readilly just get what you wanted. eg the Align FBL head came with an Align FBL controller. Also you'd start with an FB T-Rex 450.

The major appeal of Align is availability of everything.

Can't beat the 450 for spares, you can 6s it, unfortunately you can't swing 350s. Yes you would be faced with selling some electronics and head parts, or a 3g. You can get ok money for motor and esc, I would go the flybarred route and get a 3rd party head. I have a Mikado one for sale plug plug. I would like to get a look at the Phoenix, sure Andy could be persuaded to sell a bare kit....maybe?

6S on a 450 - would have me hiding behind the nearest wall, not sure a tree would be OK

Why can't you swing 350mm blades? Risk of boom strike is it?

Hey asid, could you, if you wanted to, stretch the trex 450 with parts from the tt 360 or is everything different sizes

I've just today asked Andy for more or less the same.
He's not offered a kit without flybar head, but then I didn't ask him.
I will still have to buy a flybarless head.
I did have a nice TRex 450pro flybarless with MKS 95 servos and BeastX. Loved it, in fact it was so stable it flew away in 50 foot circles never to be seen again when the radio locked out for some reason. Failsafe didn't cut throttle.
It was magic in this configuration.
Like you, too much 'not' to be used when buying another TRex450Pro, hence looking at a bare Phoenixtech Flasher 450Pro and adding from there.
I fancy giving the new Futaba Flybarless a go but will wait for a few reviews first, so it will be another BeastX for now.

                Andy's reply as follows:-

if money is not problem, go for the 2221-10 3000kv motor + SR45A esc with 4cell lipo setup.
ds95 on cyclic, ds8910A+ on the tail
these would be the top and stay at the top of range for a long time. hard to beat these performance :-)

Not had a price yet but I will now ask for it without head.
Let Andy know I told you and we might both get a bit more discount. He's always generous anyway though.

You can 4S the stock align motor.. a few fbl heads about .. china can get them for under $10
Options of microheli or rjx fbl heads or make up an align one from parts if cant get it complete..FL have all those bits
Hobby King do their own for $15 too.. as well as stocking what is probably an rjx fairly cheap
I have no complaints about the rjx 500 and 600 heads I have

I have the latest "TT360 V2" it is a lovely heli, they have improved the torque tube and the bevel gears, also they have improved the way the servo's mount,a bit like the 450pro but much easier as they mount from the outside.I have a new BeastX plus 450pro FBL sitting here waiting to go on,but I am enjoying the way it flies with a flybar,I also have the original "TT360" which was also nice.As cash becomes available I will go done the "MKS servo" route. Hope this helps you, dont hesitate to ask any questions.
                    Yours,

I'm very happy with my 450 Pro with Mikado head. It works excellent with the mini V-bar, but apparently doesn't like the BeastX. Servos, Savox, which is supposed to be identical to Align. I bought them for the same reason: Availability, there would be better servos otherwise.

If spare parts availability is an issue, simply buy a 2nd head, everything else is stock Align and you get spares everywhere.

Maybe I fly like grandma, but for me 3s has enough power:

YouTube - T-Rex 450 pro with Mikado FBL head and V-bar

It's never difficult to get 3s packs, since they are so hugely popular. And I guess it's the cheapest bang-for-the-buck when it comes to highest performance LiPos.

It has become my favourite heli.

one thing i have to mention here is, lot's of the fbl head come with 2mm feathering shaft, they are not man enough for any fbl blades weight over 40g, Russ will strongly advice anybody using 40g or heavier fbl blades choose a 2.5mm feathering shaft.(part number pht009)
our special designed fbl head which designed to run 325mm to 360mm blades coming in about 4-5weeks time.

a 6s powered, fbl head, 360mm blades, 450size heli, hard to beat, lol

                          cheers

I did this with a Trex 450SE by using an Outrage G5 boom, belt and tail pushrod but the results were not that great really. The stock motor on 3s wasn't really up to it and it didn't really work as well in general.
