  • What tx to buy noobie

    Hi

I'm going to get a tx friday, this will be used for phoenix sim and my next heli raptor 30.

So want to kill to birds with one stone,

I don't intend flying 3D if this makes any diff, and will prob never get any bigger heli than the 30. My bros raptor 60 don't fit in the boot of my E39, and mine will need to fit.

Been looking at Al's Hobbies - Fuel Powered Helicopters second one down.

    cheers

Try for a DX6i its probably about the best price / performance trade off for heli and sim...

7 channels is nice to have on a nitro so that you can utilize the full specs of a governor, but not essential. Best value at the moment is the DX6i.

        BUT...

beware buying "for now" as you will no doubt want more from a TX later on. I bought a DX6i, and only 6 months or so later, wished I had the extra channel of the DX7. The TX will almost certainly out-live your helis/planks....

But you will eventually and you will want a TX that feels good when you do.

Yep and I could never see the day I'd buy anything bigger than a 450 but I can assure you will get the heli buyme virus.

If you want to buy now then buy again later get a DX6.

If you are serious and want to save money over time get a Futaba f8 or f12

cheers lads been looking here Fast Lad Performance now i will be going saturday dam work rung, so combo or tx only. When i had an rc truck 1/5th scale it was all simple stuff, as the one i bought came with tx.

Don't want some thing that will make my head hert, so looks like the the dx6i or 7?? i will be trying to learn my son at the same time, he's 10 so he may well learn me.
So at some point we will have two helis, hence 30 size will be the max size.

I started with a dx6i and bought a dx7 18 months later. The dx7 is a much nicer tx to hold & use and has more programming options if you can stretch to spend the extra cash.

Get the Futaba 8FG and future proof yourself.
Pick one up second hand from Ebay if you can to save some pennies... its now 14 channels!

Not to get into a debate...Go read the problems some people have with the Spektrum gear. It's one of the reasons I stuck with Futaba and paid that bit extra for the 8FG.

Think we're on the same page Rhys: better to get the extra channel[s] and better spec now than buy again later.

This type of question always comes down to budget. The 8FG is a splendid tx and bypasses any real or imagined spektrum issues BUT unless one is already committed to the hobby there is a strong argument for trying to pick up a secondhand dx61..use it on sim and model, think in terms of the bunch of cheapo BnF stuff that'll go on it and may entertain the kids, maybe used for some indoor practice ..then plan on selling it later and upgrading if sticking with the hobby.
I'm a classic dyed-wool futaba tx person but ocassionally think about a dx6i second tx for that very reason..cheaper than a module for my FG12.

If money isn't the primary limitation then out of the current offerings the fg8 has to be a blinding deal.

Whatever you decide make darn sure you handle the tx's first for feel and comfort.

sorry for draging this on but i just don't have a clue, thanks for all inputs.

Combo with rx normally works out cheaper, never used one but the futaba fg8 looks and feels nice, had a feel when I went to fast lads, but credit card stayed in my pocket... this time

Edit: maybe a little out of your budget,

Go to a shop mate who carries them all and have a hold of them, futaba 7c or spekky dx7, whichever is more comfortable
