  • Heading hold, quick question

Just a quick one, in rate I push my rudder stick right, tail slide goes left and vise versa, same in hh, question is, is that the same for the movement of the heli, so bench testing it, I push the mode right, the tail slider goes left, push the most left the tail slider moves right,

Sorry, but haven't set heli up in so long I have forgotten lol

give right rudder command and the tail pitch slider should go left looking from back of heli Kev. Turn nose of heli anti-clockwise (left) and the same thing should happen as if u gave right rudder command (tail pitch slider should go left towards the case). If it doesnt then reverse the gyro

Most tailrotors are made with the pitch arm on the grip on the trailing edge and when the slider goes left the tail goes to the right because it is blowing air to the left.

If the arm is on the leading edge of the grips the slider will move to the right for the tail to move right.

(I happen to have non standard tail assemblies on my 450s so one is leading edge and the other is trailing edge)

----just looked at my other helis and it's a bit of a mix actually with several others being leading edge.

Going from what sheryl said, is mine then all back to front, as my pitch slider attaches to the leading edge

There's no fingers crossed about it.

Look at the blades. Which way are they blowing air? Apply some right rudder (nose to right). Are they blowing more air to the right (so blowing the tail to the left, and the nose to the right)? Then you're sorted. If not reverse the rudder channel.

Same with gyro. Turn heli counterclockwise. Does tail pitch increase (as above, trying to push the nose back where it came from)? If so you're sorted, else reverse the gyro.

                        No guesswork.

The antitorque system is inherently asymmetrical; you always need more thrust one way than the other (since you have to overcome main rotor torque in the "neutral" position). Many helicopter manufacturers don't seem to have grasped this simple fact and create tail assemblies that in the default configuration create most thrust in the direction we don't need it. Changing from leading to trailing edge of the blade grip changes which side you get your maximum deflection on, and so can increase your maximum tail power.

Thanks, so I'm presuming, if you flip the blades around, then the belt would also need to.be twisted through 180 degrees to make the tail spin in the opposite direction then??

no mate you leave the belt like it should be
just try it like you have built it first
its nothing to worry about mate only if the tail dont hold
but i can talk you though it next time i see you at the field for it's maiden
