  • Regulator voltage under load?

I've just installed my DX8 telemetry setup and I noticed that when I move the cyclic rapidly (only on the bench at the moment), the voltage from my 2-in-1 is dropping noticeably. It starts at 5.8v but with rapid stick movements (this is just on the bench) the voltage drops momentarily and can get as low as 4.8v. Now, I'm not even sure if my lipo is fully charged and I think I may also have a problem with the 2-in-1 switch but that aside, I am wondering as a general question, if all things are set up correctly, shouldn't a regulator always be holding the full spec-ed voltage and if there is any dip whatsoever, is this an indication of a problem somewhere or even simply a regulator that is not up to the job? ....or is it normal to see some degree of voltage drop under load? I thought the whole point of using an 8.4v Lipo and then regulating it down to 5.8v was that you would always be able to maintain the correct operating voltage.

mine does the same thing and i never worry about it as long as ur rx battery is fully charge thats all that matters really. now think about it before there was telemetry u/we didnt know what was going on and we never worry about it so y now just becuse we can see a report. like i said make sure ur rx battery is fully charge and u will be fine i never had a problem with mine

Yes, that is the problem with telemetry! -more to worry about. lol. Just wanted to know if this voltage drop was normal. What is the lowest you've seen yours go to?

Set at 6v, only ever fluctuated to 6.1v

to be honest dont know never really took any notice to it all my attention goes to the flight pack battery volts

A dip to 4.8V would worry me.

Mine drops from 5.8V to 5.6V but I've not seen it go lower.

Well like I said, the Lipo is probably not fully charged and the switch is maybe a bit dodgy so I'm probably going to get a different reg, or maybe replace the switch. The 4.8v was only the very lowest recorded voltage in the High/Low telemetry screen and it would have only been for a moment. It mostly dips to the low 5v's though if you just watch the screen while moving the sticks.

Was that actually on the High/Low page which records the lowest voltage? Or was it just what you could see live on the screen?

that was on both from what i can see so am guessing mine works fine

I had had 2 which used to be at 5.9 unloaded and only just drop .2 when loaded but both changed to dropping to 4.8v so both removed.

Ok, well I'll check it with a fresh Li-po and see how it behaves.

Well I tried it with a fully charged Lipo and I got the voltage to drop as low as 4.4v although for 99% of the time it stays over 5v. The extreme dips are very brief but this is still all on the bench so the loads in flight are probably going to be a lot higher. All the lights on the 2-in-1 seem to remain fully illuminated though but maybe they don't react as fast as the telemetry system? I also don't think it's caused by the switch because no matter how much I wiggle the switch, the voltage stays at the full 5.7 so I'm not sure what the cause is but I'm really not very confident with this reg now! I do have a spare 2-in-1 somewhere that I might dig out and compare.

Cant go wrong with the Flightech reg at £25.

Wouldnt trust the 2in1 as far as I could throw it.
