  • Not all is well after my crash :( ( blade tracking not right now )

OK so last week I had a crash, TT gear let go from just under a foot so she came dowwn pretty hard spinning when I hit TH.

After replacing a few bits on the tail and TT gears all is now sorted, or so I thought. Now my blade tracking is out ( it was spot on with no adjustment form new ) and the tail is wagging a little. Problem is I replaced the gyro as well with a GT90 so the wag could be down to the gyro, or it could be something else. I definatley felt the heli wasn't as stable as normal.

So what could have caused my tracking to be out? Main shaft bent or something?

    Feathering shaft I would imagine

If that was bent a little, would that potentially cause the gyro to have trouble as well? To be fair it's holding a heading, but maybe having to work hard to maintain it.

Sounds like a bent feathering shaft and or blade grip.
Take off one blade and then with a hex tool turn the feathering shaft bolt while watching the remaining blade. If it moves about at all the shaft is bent.

I agree with Paulie, feathering shaft bent, that's putting the tracking out which is causing vibration which is causing gyro tail twitching issue. Always worth replacing it even in a light crash.
If it's not that you should start looking at the blade grips.

Damn it the one thing I don't have any spares of. I'm hoping the Rave3D ones I got with the spares also fit the TT360, if so it'll be sorted tonight

                Take a blade out.

Turn the feathering shaft bolt clockwise with the hex driver, you should be able to see the blade grip move about where the shaft is bent.

Will do that when I get home.

If I'm replacing the feathering shaft do I need to replace the dampers etc or just the shaft?

Just the shaft unless the dampers are split.

Just the shaft should be fine.

OK seems to be the shaft is slightly bent. Luckily the Rave3D ones are the same size and I have spare ones of those

Will replace and try it out tomorrow.

Well it wasn't the feathering shaft, back to the bench

Not sure how much play there should be in the dampers, I think I'd best replace them and the main shaft and see what happens.

                          Off to order bits...

Check that the ball link arms on the blade grips aren't slightly bent as that will put the tracking out. Also don't forget, its perfectly normal to have to re track the blades after a crash and rebuild. So unless their a long way out just re track the blades as normal.

OK so you say it's normal to have to re-track the blades. But why would they go out of track? They were spot on as far as I know ( I haven't thought to check them each flight until now ) and then after that bump they're out. So something has moved/bent for them to be out. I hadn't changed anything but the TT gears and tail slider so nothing on the main shaft had been touched.
