  • Confused: new gyro, rudder backwards.

Ok so I've just test hovered the 360 with the Phoenixtech GT9 gyro in to replace the GT90. Heading hold working great but... My rudder stick control is now backwards. Any ideas? I tried the servo reverse on the rudder channel but I could hear the sound change on the ground so I know that's not right. I have the servo reverse set to on and the gyro direction set to reverse just like my GT90 was.

If your rudder is not working the right way but heading hold is working then you need to reverse your rudder channel on the tx. At least, that's how it's worked on every gyro I've ever used. If HH wasn't working (as in it's correcting the wrong way) then you reverse the gyro itself.

Kind of what I thought but he said he reversed the radio and that just changed the direction of the rudder not it's HH. Ability ??

FYI, get your leading tail blade in line with your heli's tail boom. Right rudder input = leading edge of tail blade points towards tail boom. Left rudder input = leading edge of tail blade points away from tail boom.

          HH correction:
Nose of heli moves to the left = leading edge of tail blade points towards boom.
Nose of heli moves right = leading edge of tail blade points away from tail boom.

Like Millerman and Lynx have already said correct rudder input first then correct HH if necessary.

          Hope you get it sorted.

Hmm, he said he heard the sound change. Pete, did you try it after reversing the rudder channel? Reversing the rudder channel on the tx should fix it. If not I am stumped matey.

              Hi Guys,

Yes I didn't try lifting off after changing the radio as I heard what I thought was the tail madly changing pitch. I was in a bit of a rush as I needed to take my boy to swimming. Once he's down for his afternoon nap I'll try again.

I've now checked the heli on G-bru's method and I think it's fine now just needing the radio rudder setting to normal instead of reverse but will report back in an hour

All sorted. Was indeed that I needed the servo set to normal instead of reverse on the rudder, I should have trusted my initial instincts and ignored the change in noise. I'm only in my garden though so didn't want to risk it going pear shaped. Odd though because it was the other way round I'm sure for the GT90, unless I've gone completely mad...

Now I just need to find the time to go and fly to see what this new gyro is like. I at least know that the problem I was having with the tail yesterday is fixed as I had no vibrations today.

                Thanks for the help guys.

Other than the brain fart on the reversed rudder channel, and changing the servo from the default it seems to be working out of the box Andy. I need to fly it properly to check but everything seems good so far.
