  • DX8 Temperature sensor?

Anyone using the DX8 temperature sensor to monitor engine temps? If so, how are you mounting it? I'm planning on putting it on the cylinder wall, just below where it meets the head (OS91HZ-R) but the sensor is a bit too thick to fit between the cooling fins and I'm also wondering how to secure it properly so it doesn't go wondering. Perhaps some high temp silicone to hold it in place?

Just wondering how others have tackled this? Any pictures?

Or I guess another option would be to put it in the fins on the cooling head itself although this would involve filing one of the fins a little to make room for it. I know this is the recommended spot for a Carbsmart sensor. Thoughts?

mine fits in the cooling fins on the head (91 hz-r) you need to give it a prod with a flat head screw driver i put mine in the middle as close to the top of the cylinder head as you can,
i also have this on my 700n and that has the carb smart sensor too ;0)

Have you used any kind of adhesive to hold it in? Also, I'm wondering if it makes more sense to have it at the bottom (when the engine is in the heli) rather than the top where it will be getting cool air blown directly onto it which might give lower temp readings?

No adhesive here. Just use a small hex driver to wedge the sensor between the head fins.

          Works great.

Mine is between the top fins on the crank case on my ys91. I used a flat bladed screw driver to Prise the fins apart a touch while inserting it. It's well in there and wont need any adhesive. I didn't want it on the head for a couple of reasons. First is that it's a bit further from the combustion chamber so may give lower reasons, and second, it will definitely be cooled slightly by the air flow from the fan.

i actually have mine at the top of the engine so the air blows on it same for the carb smart sensor i think ( will check for you later)
thing is your always gonna have a hotter and colder side so i use the colder side could be wrong i dont know not really documented !!
as for fixing i loop it round the head and tie strap it so its easier to remove for maintenence the carb smart i have used rtv silicone but only to fix it to the head the sensor is touching the metal and is not covered , you could also use artic silver but it drys solid and here have been reports of the wire cutting due to vibrations !! up to you mate let me know how you get on ;0)

Ok I've wedged it in there and it does actually seem quite secure so all sorted. Now let's just hope this DX8 doesn't mysteriously smash my heli to pieces! lol

I got the Dremmel out and took a tiny bit of material away.

Anyone checked how accurate the sensor is?

I have a £40 infrared heat gun and and it is very much reading the same temps as the telemetry is telling me in the radio.

                      Pretty good I reckon.

Well I think Spektrum CLAIM accuracy of +/- one degree on their website.
