  • Mounting the temp sensor on a 91SR

    Where is everybody mounting theres?

I was tempted removing a bit of material for the temp from the top of the crank case with a dremmel to remove the seam and open the gap for the thermistor.

    Are there better/easier solutions?

Is there not a fluctuation in temprature from the bottom of the crankcase to the head ?

Looks neat so praise for that but i normally measure the temp from the head, and last temprature sensor i came across had been siliconed between the fins.

I would imagine though that the hottest parts of the engine is at the top of the crank case where combustion takes place.

If you read the DX8 manual it states where to put it.

Copied and pasted from page 18.

          Temperature Sensor
To monitor the temperature of most any component, secure the sensor on the object. It must come into contact with the surface to get an accurate temperature reading. You can loop the temperature sensor around the engine’s cylinder head to assist in tuning an engine. To monitor battery temperature, you can wrap the sensor around the battery.
The mounting position of the sensor, especially on gas or glow engines, will result in different temperature readings. So it’s important to experiment with different positions.

I know where it should go, hence pointing the hex driver at the position. I was hoping there would be a better solution than taking a Dremmel to the YS.

To be honest I just "wedged" the actual sensor in-between the head fins, CSM used epoxy to hold there's in place, mine has never moved since I applied a little pressure to it with a hex driver.

Don't suppose it matters as long as it is getting a reading from the hottest part of the engine.
