  • Cheapest O.S 50 Hyper

    Hi Folks

Is is just me, or is it really amazing that the price of the OS 50 Hyper has fallen in price by almost a third in the last month or so?

Just Engines are now selling them for £105. Put that together with a 600N Basic and me thinks you'll have a kick-@$$ heli in the making for very little

Anyone seen them locally for cheaper?

        Hi

There is a battle going on between Ripmax and Graupner for control of OS in the UK currently so they have both been offering the shops better and better deals on OS engines hence the price drop.
The new RRP for the 50 Hyper is now at a very low 117.99 Pounds inc VAT but I don't think it is going to go any lower as there is no more margin left for any one!
The shops margins are also reduced on OS engines compared to most other products so there is little margin to play with, not that 117.99 isn't a bloody good price anyway.

        Cheers
        Bob

I truely feel sorry for the many smaller retailers. The internet & mail-order has really meant that their business models of old need to be thrown out the window and new ones invented. Personally, I think that the new market does not have as much room as previously. There will be fewer players as only the top two or three will be able to differentiate themselves through price - the rest will need to find specialst positioning or products to keep themselves in the game.

I also suspect that this all will only be of benefit to the consumer in the short term, as I think it will lead to the possible demise of the 'Local Hobby Store' and the convenience it gives. Perhaps thats why forums like this are flourishing - its replacing the advice that has been lost by replacing the 'Local Hobby Store' with the 'Cheapest Internet Site'.

Certianly, on the other famous UK fixed wing forum, many online retailers are maintaining a presence in order to provide the same service that they used to provide to in-store customers. I suspect the likes of BobJ are doing the same, just a little more subversive. Personally, I have no problem with this being more public and open - if BobJ owns a store and he gives advice, why should it be anonymous? After all, its not that way in-store. The good part about providing advice-for-a-sale here is that its open to public scruteny and validation. People will soon learn which retailer gives good advice, and which don't.

Ramblings over. Resume the application of alcohol.

The cheapest I've seen the hyper is £105 at KevsRacingBits in surrey.
I here Ripmax have lowered the prices for all OS Engines not just the common ones were talking the whole range. This has helped bring the price of the Hyper down by maybe 10%
I live out in the sticks & my nearest model shop doesnt do helis anymore but he has lots of nice new airfix kits & tatt.
This is the second model shop around here that has done this.
The modelers Den in Bath went the same way 10 or so years aggo, he was always moaning that none of the club came to spend money but he didnt have anything worth buying in the first place. Eventualy he invested heavily into airfix & hornby to sell to the Tourists.
Now the model shop in Frome has done exactly the same
I now get all my items online & I spend a fair amount of time weighing up the pros & cons. I never buy from Taiwan or HK. I only buy from british online shops be that via ebay, skyline, midlands, als hobbies Aurorra inwoods or whoever.
I'm not especialy after cheap goods only fair prices & customer service.
Some of the above are better at that than others so if you get lots of orders from me your doing ok.

The only problem I have with BobJ is that I *still* don't know the name of his store, so I can't buy from him!
