  • DX8 fault

Plank guy at our field this am found his DX8 wouldn't range check or work full bore over 10 feet. He opened the case and found that the aerial lead was unplugged...replaced and all was well.

BUT leaves the question of how did it get unplugged?

Never checked my aerial lead. My guess is at the factory it wasn't seated properly. Once it's in it's pretty tight.

Presumably..or some effect of thermal expansion in transit?
I only report it because if other cases rock up then perhaps their plugger-in isn't working right...too weak on one bowl of rice?

Every forum you look at seems to have nothing but posts about DX8 and problems of some sort!

i had that happen on a dx7 and plugged it back in and then when you bend the aeriel it does it again but this was after a replacement aeriel was fitted and the wire was a bit tight.

If he treats it like he flies his plank it probably had a 'Lynx' done to it

This does seem to be the case and there are undoubtedly faulty units out there, however, the trouble is now every unexplained fault is immediately being blamed on the DX8. This is not really telling us anything. What we need to know is the number of confirmed failures and how many units there are out there. Otherwise much of the bad rep the DX8 is getting could be completely unfounded.

The DX8 has telemetry - it will tell you what your link condition is like. If people are using the DX8 and are concerned about its reliability then use the telemetry if you can.

The telemetry will tell you if there is a problem with the rf side, but not if there is an issue on the baseband side like there was with the DX6i and the pots.
