  • sheared clutch bolts

    Anyone else had this problem.

just stuck a new hyper 50 in my old raptor 30 new fan out the conversion kit I used the old clutch and bolts and they sheared right off, dunno quite why, all I was doing was some hovering around as the engine has only had a couple of tank fulls through it already.

wondering if it was just a weekness in the bolts or if I had put it together wrong somehow.
    All the best
    Tony.

A very common problem, the tapped holes in the hub aren't quite deep enough and when you tighten the cap head screws they bottom out before the clutch is actually tightly fixed, this causes the clutch to move and shear the screws, my Raptor 50 did it 3rd flight from new a couple of years ago.

Your day has been as bad as mine, i went out this morning after converting a 30 to a 50 and mine have done the same thing.

I have a freind that this has happened to twice.

After having done a search on another well known forum, it has been suggested to shorten the mounting bolts by approximately 1-2mm just in case they are bottoming in the tapped holes of the fan, and not securing the clutch properly.

Hopefully i will be recieving a new fan soon and will be shaving a small section off with a dremel. Hopefully that will work.

Its all part of Thunder Tigers ongoing product development program to improve the Raptor range

I can't believe the flak thrown at Align for quality control when they pretty quickly sort out the problems, TT just drill the holes too shallow for the last 5 or so years,

              Aligns clutch bolts are 4mm,,,

My Raptors used to also suffer from that issue,,its all down to Thunder Tiger not beefing up the design to allow for more powerful engines like the Hyper that were not around all those years ago when the Raptors were launched in the last Century
