  • my first web site thing

just started this new club website. Its the local plane heli club in grimsby and one of the few where heli and plane get along.
See what ya think. Our old website was hardly ever used and hardly ever updated. thought i would try it.

Not a bad site looks like Yola has been used ?

I'd say scrap the chat room on the main page though, and a few other bits to tidy up but nothing majorly wrong.

I do our Club website and its mixed flying as well plane/heli/gliders as well....

Depending upon your web host i'd say install a SMF forum very easy to use and set up and even Mods can be done

The main thing to remember is the more you tinker/play with the website you'll get the feel for everything and you'll really get to know what you like from your website.

I actually check other local clubs in the area and I push myself to improve ours I want ours to stand out from the rest because Club Websites do make a difference and people will often go to the club with the best website 1st.

I think it looks clean and fresh, as already stated loose the chat and try and drop the adds if you can, failing that move the template locally and modify it as you need to so its not add reliant.

              Just a couple of points

On another note, looking at the old forum theres a mention to "discrimination of other clubs" in reference to membership and the current site under mission it says "No Bitching or back stabbing just A fun place to be". Both of these are comments that shouldn't have a place on a friendly club forum as they wouldn't need to make reference to them to start with.

              Just an observation

About us and Mission would essentially be the same so i'd combine the text under one.

Forums are a good idea on a site even if its just a way to deal with internal membership and club details etc. Publically they look static very early on and if you don't have a big club membership that will be active remain static.

Rule of thumb though, is you can have the flashiest website in the world, but if its not updated and the contents not managed then it'l put people off. If people see the site contents is 6 months old for example then they may think the club/groups not going anymore, even if its just field noticies or pictures from the weekend to tick it over.
