  • Managed my first Inverted hover

I'm on a real hi this morning, popped down the flying site last night, just to say hi to find it almost deserted just a couple of others down there, including my mate the guy whos been learning helis along with me.

I had the Trex 450 in the boot as ever, and as we woz the only ones there I decided to have a run around, the wind had been blowing all day but it had died down nicely. flew around a bit then did some nose in which has now got fairly easy, so nice n controlled then I tried some flips some slow flips then I thought go for it, flipped her upsidown and held it there.

Felt like hours but it was probably only about 20 seconds or so, but I held it flipped it back relaxed then did it again. WOW what a feeling.

looking forward to now trying it at the weekend with a slightly bigger bird.
    long as the weather holds
    All the best
    Tony.

            Cool Tony!!

A fantastic step for you. Glad you were all nice and relaxed - that really makes all the difference I think.

Let us know how inverted on a larger size heli goes. I didn't want to try it on the 450 first as I am more relaxed on the 50. I'm thinking I maybe should have had a go on the little 'un first??

I find the littleun less intimidating, tomorrow long as the wind falls a little its very windy here at the moment, I'll give it a go with a 50.

got to run a few more tanks through the rappy to get the engine run in, but then i'll get up there and try it.
              All the best
              Tony.

Well alot more practise, had a rubbish weekend as far as the heli went.

today nothing but rain so no flying, yesterday took the newly upgraded rappy 50 to the field, with the main aim off running the motor in properly. did the first tank of fuel no problem keeping the motor very rich.

When I picked it up I felt a grinding but only mild so thought it was the main gear rubbing on the new canopy. loosened the canopy a litte so that it was further from the gear went to start it up again and found the chutch was jamming. took it apart today only to find both the clutch bolts holding it to the fan, had sheared off grinding into the clutch bell and the fan, bit of a mess although nothing too badly damaged, so a couple of new bolts bit of cleaning up and its all in working order again.

so the next thing is to get the inverted hovering a little better and tidy up my rolls.
                    All the best
                    Tony.

I see you are in Essex Tony, where abouts do you fly, I am based near Maldon, and fly with Colchester Model club.
Agree the weather has been absolutely crap today, so no flying for me, but will be trying to get a couple of evenings in if the weather improves.

Hey, Just noticed this my 500th post, what a great site this is

The club is Mixed, but there are becoming more heli members, they have a few sites, but the best one is a fair hike from me, but having flown hteir recently, worth it. as fo Two Tree Island, I know where that is, have worked on the island many times in the past.
Maybe I will take a trip down there one day and see you all, what day is the best to go.

Saturday is the most crowded, although there wern't many of us down there, because im in maldon saturday mornings I dont get there till mid afternoon usually.

not sure what sunday mornings are like, we can only fly ic up till 2.00 and so far ive not been able to be down there all morning as I do other things.

but it would be tgood to meet ya, there are a fair number of heli flyers down there although only a few that fly them seriously.
                            All the best
