  • Where to get??

Im want to get some tool and bits so I can do work on my servo's myself.

I need a crimp tool, strippers and a loads of pins, plugs etc etc. Is there a kit I can get anywhere containing all this as a start up kit or would it be better to buy a good crimper and get the other accessories seperate??

    Cheers

Punt around and you can get heavy duty servo wire, pins and plugs and crimper tools very cheap. If you're like me then you'll stuff more than you make well for a while and throwing cheap pins and plugs away hurts less

          What AWG is servo wire??

Is there a difference between Futaba plugs and JR or not for this??

I found the secret is to make sure you only strip the right amount of sheath and make sure this goes to right up to the part where the core goes, making sure you get the orientation right on the servo lead. That way you don't have to twist the cable to put the pins in. Cut the cable square and strip all three at the same time with one of these

The difference is Futaba have a key on one side for orientation and JR doesn't. If you've got Fut equipment then go with Futaba plugs if not go with JR. You can cut the key off with a sharp knife if your pushed

pins are the same but the plugs are different (as you know)... wire gauge...er.. 22swg? if memory serves..it's been a while 'cos I bought a load at the time..

Apart from mending the ocassional damaged servo wire I stopped making my own extensions etc...just never really got the knack of doing it quickly and found it frustrating to repeat and repeat when ya can buy leads so cheaply now..

Ben, this place used to have a walk through of how to strip and fit the plugs but i cant find it just now. They also sell all the relative bits and pieces.

Although the JR's housing doesn't have the key they do have chamfered corners on one side they do have to oriented correctly as well.

I got a complete kit from Hansen Hobbies. http://www.hansenhobbies.com/
