  • Heavy Duty Switch

Im going to run 8v on the 700 with a Flighttech rx pack.

The RX packs come with 2 servo plugs on the end, which I want to use.

Ideally im looking for a heay duty switch with 2 inputs and 2 outputs, anyone seen them about?

If you put a switch inline with the battery input, you will loose the effectiveness of the built in failsafe switch. Just disconnect the battery at the end of the session to stop in discharging over time.

Thats the other option, just a ball ache taking the canopy off etc after each flight.

You don't have to disconnect after every flight!? Just use the fail-safe switch during the day between flights, then disconnect the pack after the last flight of the day. The residual current draw is really small, something silly like 2mAh, but enough that if left connected for a week or more, it would likely flatten the lipo totally.

With the failsafe switch in place and set to make the regulator not send power to your RX the regulator draws about 4mA. If you are using a 1000mA rx pack it will take 250 hours before your rx pack is completely flat. You don't need to unplug at the end of each flight but remember to unplug the rx pack when you get home. But I guess you would do this anyway so as to re-charge it off the model?

It will be at 8v so wont be using the reg, nor an rx; just plugging the Rx pack straight into the VBar.

Can you still run a failsafe method with this setup?

Completely read this all wrong didn't we? FlightTech as in battery not regulator. Doh!!!

I have read about electronic switches but have not seen any advertised. I would try and find emcotec or something like that. I think Midlands are selling stuff by this company.

I use dual nihm packs and a generator on my Spectra as OTT safety after my P Gasser decided to throw a mind of it's own.
After some thought I went with two HD switches ather than a double pole switch for the extra redundancy if one failed or the system vibrated closed. I just made up a simple double switch monting plate with then above each other.

For that configuration it was also so that I could charge the packs seperatly on board and also so i could check the pack seperately

Dual switch isnt a bad idea I would just have to make a mount up, or make a space for it in the frames.

I should imagine he will be using the outrage torq servos (definately on the tail as thats the only hv tail servo out there) On the cyclics and throttle he could be using a variety as many are now 7.4v capable.

I would like something like this for my 500 as I don't like the arcing when connecting a lipo, would I need something like above or can I just have a simple on-off switch to cut power plugged inbetween esc and rx?
                            Nik.

                            Before you ask:

NO, you can't have a go

No that switch wouldn't work for a 500 esc as it is rated up to 30V but only 8A, and you will be drawing much more than that. It's simply for flightpack to rx not for main pack to esc. You want to check the arcing out on a 12s beast, made many a person crap themselves when I connect the srimok up. If you want to avoid the arcing you need a second parallel ground connection that has a 1 ohm resistor in it which you connect first.
