  • Mini Titan tail just spun!!!

I was hovering my mini Titan today, first time in a while, all was going well and the timer said I had 1 1/2 mins left for battery power, I then went to take it up again and as it lifted the tail spun round for no reason and that was the end of that!!! It dug into the boggy ground along with the blades, stripped the main gear and bent a few bits, but I just don't know why it decided to do it and don't know really what to check?? It's got a gy401 gyro and futaba s9257 tail servo, any ideas what I can look for is it just one of those things?
    Thanks for any advice

    Rate mode maybe?
Or was it the torque/too much throttle as you were just spooling up
    Nik.

    Before you ask:

    About 2 miles
    Over £500
    Very difficult
    Over 80mph
NO, you can't have a go

Yes I was just spooling up and flicked it into idle up so maybe that was it, servos all seem fine and tail working ok now, I just don't like not finding a definite cause.

Could just be the jump from slow spinning rotors or low head speed to a higher head speed that caused the twitch but usually if your up to speed on normal and then switch over the twitch is minimal or none existent but this depends on your TC's and PC's, is your idle up set up and do you usually fly idle up?

Depending on what radio and esc you are using it would be better to start up in idle rather than switch from normal straight to idle after it's started spooling up. You will inevitably get torque twist with the sudden increase in rpm.
If you have throttle hold and also have an esc with soft start then after switch on, flick it to hold and then switch to idle 1 and move the throttle to mid stick and then release the hold.

Thinking back to the event I may have been a bit keen on switching to idle up, I didn't realise it would have done that and I guess being in a boggy field made it stick in the mud. Thanks for the replies, it's certainly given me peace of mind and I'll get the parts and get back in the air!
Mean time I'll try the 500 out,  cautiously!!

My MT as given me tail probs in the past so I converted to torque tube such a difference, Fast Lad Performance
Today's outlook is fine for flying.
