  • Finally excepted i...

.......Need to get glasses. My left eye has always been bad,i even cheated eye tests when i was younger to avoid wearing glasses....i used to speed read the first half of the chart with my good eye before taking the test lol.

Anyway,my other eye hasnt been to good just lately, the one i have been relying on for my flying and at the field today i felt like the old codger in the tv advert, you know, the one who sheered his collie....at the end of the ad hes trying to focus, yeah that was me today.

So an hour ago i put on my fathers reading glasses and they are still on and my eye that i have been relying on has seen some small writing with ease where i had to squint to see.My other eye is no better and i know it needs a better lens

Its like seeing HD as oppsed to normal telly, saw the cat earlier and i could see the lines of each hair so much better

The good news is,i will be able to see better so i suppose and that means i can push my flying more

Tbh,when im flying i can see the heli ok cos im concentrating so hard. Its stuff like being on here and watching the tv im struggling with and when at the field im watching someone fly from the shed the upright beam in front of me makes my eyes focus all funny as the model goes behind it

Im getting older now, just hit 40,it wont feel so geeky knowing i have to have them...im not into the hassle of contacts so glasses are the way to go

Age has affected my eyesight to the point of varifocals for the last 10 years and overdue for a new prescription again... means I have to fly lower and closer than i want just to orientate everything...

..got a bit high today doing some climbing ticktocks and got totally disorientated..couldn't remember which way up or nose/tail in it was...just got lucky with collective guess to bring it down slowly piroing until i could tell head from tail..

I once had 20/20 vision and then slowly over time I got a minor short-sightedness. I never needed glasses though because for everyday stuff I can see fine. So my first ever prescription was just for flying and that's the only time I wear glasses.

I can see better than most who wear glasses & yet i can't pass the eye test to get an LGV liscence. They wont prescribe glasses as i'm likely to get double vision. I won't have laser treatment as it CAN make your eye's worse. Treatment is not 100% safe & you can end up with worse eyesite. IMO it's a gamble i would never be willing to take.

This what i was told when inquiring about it.

I've been wearing glasses since my mid 20's due to a fair level of astigmatism in both eyes. My prescription hasn't changed for years and my corrected vision is very good, thank god. A few years ago I noticed that my arms weren't long enough for me to be able to comfortably read small print so I ended up with reading glasses. Then I got to the point that I couldn't read with my normal glasses at all so took the advice of a fellow flyer who's an optician and now wear bi-focals. Next time it's going to be the varifocal route.

Our 11 & 12 year old lads were bemoaning that they couldn't play various games on the Xbox & PC due to age and wanted to be 16/17/18 - I told them not to wish their lives away as getting old sucks! Anyone remember their dad telling them the same thing

I have blind spots from a motorbike accident, very annoying in one eye as right in the centre of my vision. Getting glasses, despite a very mild prescription, has drastically reduced the effects; and both eyes together is now as if I have no blind spots at all. So I've learned that sharpening your vision can have better effects than you might think!

Had my test this am and i never cheated lol,the nice lady tells me i have a lazy eye but my better eye is fine long distance and i only need one pair.I have gone for std type lens, cant get on with bifocals and varifocals and as its 2 for 1 im having some shades done in grey polarised

She says my lazy eye will benifit from the lens but wont get perfect vision.

Will update when i get them but untill then i do look forward to better eyes.

Had to laugh, all 3 women in there were facinated about my hobby, ones hubby tried and failed years ago and i wrote down a few heli's for him to try again with

I wear monthly contact lenses, technology of them has moved on from only 5 years ago, they are very soft and you don't even know you are wearing them, takes a couple of minutes to change them at the end of the month.you even sleep with them in!

takes a couple of months to get use to them, but its the best thing I ever did.

Specsavers even give a chance to trial them to see if they work for you, so you should have gone to Specsavers
