  • Hobby shops in the Bicester/Aylesbury area?

    Hi all,

I'm gonna be in England for a couple of days at the end of this week (to attend a funeral) and wondered if there were any hobby shops worth a visit in the Bicester/Aylesbury/Oxford sort of area? Possibly up towards Milton Keynes as well?

Will have a couple of hours spare on Friday.

On an un-related subject, does anyone use the 12V power outlet sockets found on some cars to power chargers? They look same style as cigarette lighters, but my new can has one in the boot as well as one on the dash (plus an actual cigar lighter).

    TIA.

The nearest to Aylesbury is Skyline Models which is helicopters only, they stock the plug that you need to use the 12v sockets on your car for charging, they are a couple of miles from junction 5 on the M40

Thanks for the responses so far. We are going to be travelling up from Portsmouth and back down to Weymouth, any shops a bit more "en-route" worth a diversion??

With regards to using the socket in the boot, be careful as to what current your charger can pull. Check your vehicles owners manual for what the socket is rated at, and don't exceed this- you don't want your wiring loom melting (or worst!). I have used the same socket in the boot of my passat for this, and it was fine, but only for charging small packs at low charge rates.

I think it says 120W. I think I'm going to steer clear as it would be 6S packs I'd be interested in charging, and I think it'd melt the car's wiring at anything approaching 0.5C

Depends on which route you are coming back, there is Hobby Hangar in Yeovil, or Kessocks in Weymouth

Link to their new address http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/main-d...-models-2.html

Your socket in your car is 10amp, so you would blow the fuse before you would melt your wiring

Also worth having a look in Slough RC if your in that area. More general modelling these days - used to be heli specialists - but lots of "off-the-shelf" stuff in there.

                Slough Radio Control Models

(Note: I'm not necessarily endorsing them - just pointing out that they are in the area!)

Thanks everyone, this is all great info. I don't often get to the UK, and do pretty much all my shopping online, so it'll be nice to be able to look at some stuff "in the flesh". Don't really NEED to buy anything, but who knows, maybe a new canopy or something will be crying silent tears on a shelf and need a new home.

Oh, and of course, a Blade MCPX if I can find someone taking orders
