  • Why 30mm wide main frame??

    Just a thought,
why are all, (excluding electric helis.)
designed to have very narrow main frames i.e. 30mm when the tank width has to be a certain size to contain enough fuel for reasonable flight time.
It makes wiring servo and battery location harder to install.
Seems a bit silly when the canopy has to be wide enough to streamline the air past the tank and main gear.

I think my Xcell 90 has the narrowest frame set I've ever seen - I'll measure them later. The simple idea behind narrow frames is for rigidity. It also makes the fuselage more robust in a crash as there could conceivably be less bending moments at impact.

Edit: Measured now - my Xcell 90 frames have a 20mm gap.

i think the thinner frames can resist the torsional stress better. could be wrong though
