  • Escrow and payment partner?

    Hi all,

Does anyone know anything about using escrow and payment partner?

I have been talking to a guy via e-mail about a car he advertised on gumtree. He said he is in the swedish air force and he is currently in sweden but he has been allowed to take 2 days leave to bring the car back to the uk.I thought it was bullshit to start with but i have checked up all i can and also spent 15 quid on a reg check and it all seems legit. The guy has said that he is reluctant to take his only 2 days leave to bring the car back and risking me not turning up.He said his friend bought a bike from biketrader and used an escrow company to handle the cash.
    Here is an extract from his last email;

My friend used www.payment-epartner.com for a bike purchase on autotrader and he was very pleased. This is a British company and is also recommended by autotrader at: http://www.traderblogfiles.com/safe-trades/. All you have to do is to register on their website and then I need your user name so I can set up the transaction. You can read how escrow works here: www.payment-epartner.com/howitworks.php
I am sure you won't find anything wrong with the car. I can even give you two day to test the car at any inspection service you prefer, before deciding to keep it. The company will only release the money to me only when you confirm the car is exactly as described and you have decided to keep it. I believe this is the safest way since you don't pay anything to me. I reassure you, the car has no outstanding finance, as it has been fully paid for.
I would appreciate your answer as soon as possible so I know what to do. If you can let me what is your phone number, we can get in touch faster.
I'll bring the car with the log book, full service history, manual, 2nd key and we can sign the documents right away. One more thing I saw that they accept paypal and bank transfer as payment method which is 100% secure. Let me know your decision as soon as possible.

its a scam, and a common one on Gumtree. The money can not be refunded regardless. Stay well clear and buy local. I almost bet money its a bargain price...............they been doing it for ages!!!!
If I don't reply, it's probably because I am lost in a Field somewhere!

I reckon this is posted in the wrong forum...

      I stuck www.payment-epartner.com in Google, and didn't find much - www.payment-epartner.com - Google Search

Pretty much just this - Is any one heard about payment epartner ? - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Answers -

      sounds like a scam

The point of Escrow is that the money is held by a trusted 3rd party. We have no reason to trust this 3rd party, so it provides us no safeguard.

      I'd suggest walking away.

If you did decide to do this then I would go with Paypay at least that way if its bullsh*t you can get your money back.
        Nik.

        Before you ask:

        About 2 miles
        Over £500
        Very difficult
        Over 80mph
NO, you can't have a go

Don't forget the 'Search' and 'Thanks' buttons.

          Scam, read here :

Fraudulent payments - Safety and security - Auto Trader UK - Auto Trader UK - safety-and-security

          This bit in particular:

'Auto Trader will never recommend an escrow service. If you receive an email claiming to be from Auto Trader which does – beware, it’s probably be a scam.'

I wouldn't depend on PayPal for a refund either as they usually regard services like this as a 3rd party cash transfer mechanism and will not act to recover funds sent that way.

If he is selling I would have thought he must be the registered owner..

Ask him....He should be able to scan/email a copy of the Reg details..

As others have said...If it seems too good to be true.....It probably is...

Must be special if you need to buy from Sweden..

Hope you make the right decision...

As a thought...if he has 2 days leave to sell this to you...it must take at least a day to drive ?? here, and another day to get back if you do not buy it...where are the 2 days you can have to test it...

Defo a scam. NEVER use an escrow service.

I never even take a payment when looking at cars now. If you know youll be walking away from it you wont look over it as hastily as if you were going to drive away. Any understanding/legit buyer will let you take them to the bank to get a bankers draft
