2in1 or elyQ

I noticed a few people have started using the elyQ instead of the 2-1 on fbl units. Tbh I'm starting to favour the elyq at the moment because I think I read it uses a little less power etc.
Could anyone who uses it post a couple of pros and cons

Also the battery indicater on the 2-1 reg is a bit pointless with fbl as it shows the red and orange light. Is the elyQ the same.

I've just changed from the 2in1 to the ElyQ regulator. Smaller unit, and for a dullard with electronics like me, was a bit fiddly to set up - without the help of the guys on here!!! Does have a voltage indicator, but you will not see the LEDs in bright light, and also with the canopy on . It has a small switch on the base of the unit, and a remote switch, both of which need to be ON for it to function. So you have to turn the master switch on the regulator ON, before putting the canopy on, then use the remote switch. Which is Ok.

PROS:

10amp with 100amp peak!
Easy to set up.
Loads of Inputs.
Better size than other decent regs.
Good Price.
Accurate voltage indicator.
Shows ampage pull after each flight.

CONS
hard to mount it in a place where you can see the voltage indicator and therefor I have fitted an led that tells me when my battery is low.
No remote glow, but no biggy...


LOVE the ely-q reg - highly recommended.

I've gone in a slightly different direction recently.

I know this only suits Spektrum users, but I've found the AR7100 (or AR7100R) to be a great solution as it provides a regulator and receiver in one package, also governor if you get the R version.

It provides full input power for cyclics and a regulated 5.2V for tail, gyro & throttle.

You still need to get something to handle the glow (I used SwitchGlo Pro).

It allowed a very tidy install on my X50 which otherwise would have been quite messy due to the lack of space on the radio trays.

I guess if buying new I'd look for the AR7110 or AR7110R as these are the new DSMX versions (DSM2 compatible).

I have 3 ElyQ's.

It's an excellent solution for FBL as you have no need to worry about current loss from a single power feed.
It is not a problem that it has two ON switches as you only need to use one of the two, (usually the remote one).

As said the LED display is a little small and can be hard to place in a visable position but this cam be over come.

The remote glow is resolved by using something like a Prolux (CML DistributionProlux Automatic Glow Igniter with Indicator)
or a switch glow system, but these are a little more expensive.

Align 2in1, Does what it say's on the packet and no more. Cheap as chips but is not able to supply enough current to run several digital servo's in an FBL situation due to significant increase in current draw, but it does have a nice lipo voltage display and an easy to get at on off switch.

That is interesting . I'm on spekytrum so will be easier. With what's required from the rx does it do it's job nicely in acting as a rx and reg. Is there anything else you need.

You just have to remember that the regulator is only operating to reduce voltage on rudder/gear/throttle/Aux2 so the cyclics have to be able to handle whatever your input voltage is.

Very simple to set up as there are no options to set or complex wiring to sort out, just plug the servos into the right socket for the voltage you want them to see.

The 'Governor' in the R version is actually a rev limiter to be precise and comes with an engine backplate sensor.

If you go down that route then the limiter goes on channel 5 and cannot be moved so you need to set up the gyro on Aux2.

I've only just started flying this model so not a lot of stick time yet but I'm sure others that have been using it longer will comment.

I'm not to worried about the gov.
Looking at my servo specs it can handle 4.8 and 6v (fut 9351). So with my lack of knowledge towards eleclytrical stuff would the servos be running at 7.4 v unregulated if so it looks like I'll go down the elyQ route.

Because it was only after I brought the same items as a standard Align combo kit for my 90, that I read of the 2in1 moans. I replaced the 2in1 for a ElyQ and a switchglow Pro and seem happy despite needing to maiden. It is a far superior unit compared to the 2in1 and the switchglow pro works off my gov channel so when I flick it off on my Tx, I get the glow without fiddling with a glow starter.

If I had planned my build instead off buy what I know, I would have got a AR7100R, HV servo's, Switchglow pro for a easy and neat set up as theres alot off wires having a reg, gov, fbl unit, glow igniter, Rx and servo's

It's a nice little unit, and mine sits on the right side of the nose of my 600, the MultiGov now on the left side. Held it on with velcro straps, which of course means you can't see much of the LEDs!! But I check the voltage through the balance lead after each flight anyway. The remote switch is on the forward right landing strut. For ignition, I just use a remote plug and glow driver.
