  • Cyclic Rings for Piro Flips

Guess what I managed today? Thats right, a newbie with less than 20 real-world flight managed to get some piro-flips going on in Phoenix. I've discovered the secret it to rotate the cyclic in a perfect circle at the same rpm as which the heli is piroetting, using a little collective to maintain altitude as necessary.

I did find it quiet difficult to get my cyclic circles nice and round, and even more difficult to be constant. Would the use of cyclic rings help this proccess?

    Thanks
    Andrew

Anyone care to comment on the use of Cyclic rings, please?

Seems the majority don't like them, but some do.
I have one on my right stick at the moment.
This is a servo output disc fitted between the screw on tip and the main bit of the stick. It only hits the TX bazel in the corners so it doesn't make a perfect circle but it does stop me putting the stick in the corner which would make the head bind on both my trex450 and raptor becuase I have adjusted both for the absolute maximum cyclic throw.

Thanks to Futaba's fiendish designers there is a problem in that the stick is not exactly in the middle of the circular bazel on my 7CAP tx, so a true cyclic ring would need to be similarly out of ****.

With the disc I found that I was a lot closer to a successful pyro flip on phoenix. My attempts are more of a half flip with half pyro, hestitate, then the same to complete.

Another name for the cyclic ring is the chaos ring!

Thanks. Do you think having one will help me with this manouvre?

i have been using one for exactly the same reason,
in the early stages it does help to get that stir going.
not so sure it will be required when the brain learns the timing
          but imho it helped.

Make one out of some cardboard and gaffer tape first, see if it helps at all

cyclic ring will not help piro flips. you dont use anywhere near full cyclic probably less than half. the cyclic ring is there to stop you getting into the corners and binding up the swash plate.

tend to agree with Ade, I learned without one and you have to be stirring like a nutter to hit the corners.

why do they call them chaos rings then?

My resone for fititng a disc rto my cyclic stick was to avoid binding with the stick in the corner - my trex head will stop if I put the stick in the corner!

probably named by people that dont know any better. you would be supprised how little cyclic you use in chaos the rate of flip really isnt that high. look at some vids you will see what i mean.

I used one on my Raptor 90 to stop binding in the corners, but realistically in flight I never went there so binned it.

I've just gone from doing half pyro flips/caoso n my 600 in a blind panic to actually having some sort of control, and only using small circles on the right stick.

Ade, it was one of your video's that put me on to how to do it, so thanks for that. Needless to say, what I've managed to do doesn't resemble yours in the least, unless you've started to crash 50% of the time while trying one! At this stage, I'm struggling with the timing of the stirring and trying to correct it when its out of sequence.

I think may need to slow my piro rate down when flipping. At this stage I'm going about 1 per second.

Stirring like a nutter.... that pretty much describes me at the moment

Actually, I know a person whose surname is Nutter. Is first name: Andy. Guess what is printed at the bottom of his Credit Card. Thats right: " MR A NUTTER"
