  • My 1st 500

Well it arrived today,a hk500gt fairly nice kit apart from the canopy being broken during delivery!
Don't mind as much as it was a peice of junk anyway and i had already got a nice fusuno canopy, align skids and tail boom previous.
All cnc head looks and feels well made all runs smooth BUT the tail slider arms hit the servo arm bearing mount!so as it spins it binds, looks like i need to get a align version of that too.

Apart from that its good quality and can't believe how big it is next to my 450,really made me realise how these can hurt you!!
    Cheers Aaron

How damaged is cano, may ne best using this one if you can, save the fusano until the other one is so fat hear up from crashes, that way you won't he disappointed when you crash and wreck the fusano, just an idea

Its useable and i was thinking of putting it on for setup and 1st couple of flights to make sure everything is dialled in and then will put the fusuno on.
I can throw my 450 about a bit and people say these are more stable to fly,and alot bigger too.
      Cheers Aaron

You'll love it Aaron.. its a massive difference from a 450!

I'm not getting you tail pitch slider though?.. It hits the bearing servo mount?!?!

Yeah the bearing mount, where the pitch slider connects to the servo rod,the little L shaped arm.
that has a little bearing that mounts in the middle of the arm.
And then the arms that come off the grips to the slider hit the mount for the little L shaped arm.

That was harder writing that then how it sounded in my head!!
          Cheers Aaron

Check your ball links and rods carefully, some of mine were junk which popped off way too easily. Some rods had mashed threads too. Also check for squished fastener heads from the factory and a distinct lack of threadlock on critical areas. I also had problems with the mainshaft and the opening in the frames for the maingear - it won't come out without dismantling the frames! (but it does after a bit of time with the dremmel!) The bearing blocks didn't sit right either. There was a lot of slop in the tail pitch slider - needed the brass sleeve tightening up. There's probably more too, but the key point here is to check everything twice.

Congrats Aaron, I paid for my 500 this morning so will be joining the 500 club soon myself, apart from the obvious do you know what we need to buy as extra kit ie swash levellers etc or will the kit from a 450 work?
              Nik.

              Before you ask:

              About 2 miles
              Over £500
              Very difficult
              Over 80mph
NO, you can't have a go

That must of been a bad batch, apart from the tail problem and every screw needed thread lock,(but that needs to be checked on every heli),the kit is good, mainshaft sits and spins smooth and the maingear fell straight through the frame when i 1st put it in.the head is very nice quality, but might change the plastic arms to align just incase!!

It was cheap so i can't complain, going to change a couple of main parts to align and it will be a good heli.
                Cheers Aaron

Yes i had only ever seen my 450 before and i prefer the size of the 500 already!!
And i have just a standard 450 toolkit with a 450 bladebalancer and pitch gauge, and the only bolts i couldn't undo were the 4 for the motor mount, will threadlock them when i get a new driver.
Blades fit on the 450 balancer and the pitch gauge fits with about 2mm of gap, close fit,so yeah maybe some grease to for the bearings.
                  Cheers Aaron

Yeah i will just get the align metal tailbox and grips don't want to trust the cheap plastics holding the tail blade.think its only about £30 to save from a major failure

I would stick with the plastice tail grips, they are more forgiving

with the belt drive HK500's you have to file 1mm off the length of the boom. Otherwise the belt will be piano wire tight. Needs to have a bit of give in it - enough so the belt is not rock solid anyway

Last one i built for a mate needed to be pulled out the gearbox out 3mm to get some tension on it

                              Looks like there all different
