  • Glow driver question

Is it possible to run a glow driver through a "Y" harness on a 7 channel receiver? Don't want to have to buy an 8 channel Futaba rx as they are twice the price of the 7 channel rx. I've had a look at these two:

    Fast Lad Performance

    Fast Lad Performance

    Any help appreciated.

It is yes, but it depends on which side of the EPA the glow activates. I'm doing this with a gryphon auto booster, but on ch5 (gyro gain). When I'm in rate mode on the ground, it powers the glow, then I flick into HH to take off it goes off.

Well, that's the plan. Like I say, it's down to luck if it works out that way. If it works out that the glow only ignites when you're in HH mode (say HH is +50 EPA, and glow ignition is on + EPA also) then you're out of luck as you need a governor, but you don't want the plug glowing all the time. Basically, the glow needs to be the opposite EPA value to the item that's sharing the channel.

Ideally you need an 8th channel but they are really expensive as you say.

EDIT: nevermind lol. I realised the ones you linked to are not radio activated ones like the gryphon auto booster. What you are wanting to do should work as it's just sharing the power of ch7, not the signal.

both of them will work fine with a Y lead as your only taking the power leads .. The prolux one is cheap but with some simple mods is quite a good glow driver ...

I was hoping someone would say that as I ordered the Prolux this morning!

            What modifications are required?

            Cheers

Are you using the Prolux on the 700's Tim? Noticed a push button mounted on your 700 frame that looked like the one with the Prolux glow kit.

I changed the button to a flick switch from maplins as it handles the vibes better and put some hot glue round the led connections ... Some people have been putting hot glue inside to stop it breaking , but I found if you dont hard mount it to the frame and don't let it touch the canopy and it works fine
