  • Swiss Tools... More like Swiss Cheese

Does anyone here use Swiss Tools? ( Fast Lads sell them and I know lots of people use them )

I bought a whole load of them to build my TT360 and while using my 1.5mm hex last night it got stuck in the screw head. Knowing that's a sign I had a good look at the head of the screw driver and sure enough the tip is twisting. I've only ever had that with cheap tools before.

Just wondering if anyone else has had issues with them? It looks like they have some kind of warranty but I spent what amounts to a small fortune on swiss tools and already one of them seems to be needing replacement. I've only built one heli.

On a similar subject, anyone got any suggestions on tool makes?

You say its a 1.5mm tool that's twisted? ,.... How much force were you putting through it at the time!?? ... No matter whether its an El'Cheapo Tool or Swiss/Snap-On or whaterver! The tool will only be rated for so much torque and will fail if you exceed this.

Yeah it's the 1.5mm hex head driver. I'm only hand tightening the screws, and not even that tight as I didn't want to risk damaging threads etc.

I use these and found them to be pretty good so far.

It is also possible that the bolt head is out of tolerance resulting in a loose fit and burring of the sides of the hole. Not saying that this is the case but it is more likely that a screw which costs a few pennies to manufacture is going to be softer and have looser tolerances than a £10 tool.

For the price they are, it shouldnt 'twist' no matter how much force you put on it when loosening something off by hand surely?!

                Send em back to FL.

I have a full set of Hudy tools here.

Really are the best money can buy but using a 1.5mm you really must agree there is only so much they can take.

I think Swiss tools are all a little on the small size tolerance wise. For the 1.5mm and 2mm sizes this makes them close to useless. They are also quite soft. I have had to send 2 of my sizes back to the UK distributor (Fastlads didn't want to deal with it even though I bought them there!) After about a month I got replacements. I never overtightened using them, I have the torque driver handle. So for the money I'm not that impressed.

I haven't been that impressed either, and I think you might be right about them being slightly undersized at the very tips.

I'm looking at alternatives but will definitely sort out getting it replaced under warranty if possible, but will probably look at something stronger for using most.

I have some Wera tools that I got from shop4tools.co.uk and they are more than up for any job I have thrown at them so far. Customer service is also good from them.

I've been building with and using this hex tool:

                              Fast Lad Performance

It's the best set of hex's i've purchased, The tips of the hex's are still like brand new. Superb Quality in my mind.
