I nearly got into a physical fight about this at work last week. Guys keep asking me how my toy is... and I explain that I don't classify it a toy. It's a hobby. And it got heated!

I didn't back down.

According to him, the one way a toy is defined is 'a small reprasentation of a real world object'. I thought I was beat there, but then I asked if a scale model of a building that an architect builds as a demo to a client... is this a toy?

That beat him back a bit...

But then he just kept saying, 'It's a toy..'. So I stick a knife in his eye. That shut him up.

They still badger me... and more say it's a toy, than back me up.

And I had a problem today when I noticed that R/C Aircraft is under the categoty 'Toys' on ebay.

a helicopter can kill as can planks.....and have done. would something of that nature be clasified as a toy??

I wouldn't say a toy could kill you , but some may argue. Id back you up. Rc hellis are not toys .

It's only jealousy provoking them - they wish they could fly a heli!

I don't care if someone thinks it's a toy, I know it's not and have the relevant respect for the machine.

No point getting steamed up over it though. They obviously have nothing better to do with their lives and need to pick on your hobby to shine a little light into their otherwise beleaguered little existences

From Oxford English Dictionary:

toy

• noun 1 an object for a child to play with, typically a model or miniature replica of something. 2 a gadget or machine regarded as providing amusement for an adult. 3 before another noun (of a breed or variety of dog) much smaller than is normal for the breed.



We tend to not refer to them as toys as they are not suitable for children to use without supervision (ie. dangerous) but in the true sense of the definition of the word they are in fact toys.
