We all do that at somepoint - and still do. Especially when something catches our eye.

Get her rebuilt and back in the air

There have been a few times when in just flying around I would somehow turn a certain way and suddenly realise the heli is banking hard but not totally certain which way! This has usually been when the heli gets a bit of distance away. All you can do is try to correct the way you think is right but if you get it wrong and don't have enough height it can be a disaster (unless perhaps you're really on the ball and just start flying inverted and then get some height back).

I even tried to think about an alternate ploy, if I am ever uncertain about the direction it is banking, like maybe pulling up elevator instead which would result in a turn and would quickly reveal the actual direction it was banked.

That would be great but as i have been flying only 2 months thats a lil bit past my skill level!!lol i think i should of thought to give a bit of height as i was only about 4-5 ft off the ground.
I put my hands up it was my fault!lol

Six words, my, my, you get distracted easily. Just be careful when practicing figure 8's, or you'll end up like aaron-88 here.

Got some beauties for later, when I'm bored with this one.

Its the hardest thing to train urself to do, but if u put the pitch at 0 and centre the cyclics ur find the model won't go far, may giv u that extra second u need, saved me loads of timnes

But if it's already heading for the ground you have to make a correction!

yeah i need plenty more practice i was only flying in normal mode not idle up so it would of just dropped to the floor either way.

It does work & seems to help calm it all down a tad. It often then allows you to see if up is really up, or it's all the other way round.

I've stacked mine a fair few times when orientation is lost, continuing to think I need to apply positive pitch when in fact it should have been the other way.

As Pete says, it buys you time, cuz while it's hovering/floating (whichever way up) it an't crashing, then small inputs helps you get it back again. Certainly puts the breaks on that 'shyte, I've lost it' feeling.

Erm, even tho some times it still ends up as a crash

Oh, & never just give up & crash on the sim. Fight every time to keep it from crashing, kinda transfers over to the real world, if that makes sense.

                              Disorientation.

I learnt about disorientation on powerplanes. It's a shock when you find out that you can't believe your eyes. It looks as though the plane or heli is moving one way when it's really moving another. On a plane it is difficult but you usually have enough time to try small control movements and that usually breaks the spell and your brain sorts itself out. The real problem is that we don't see with our eyes. The eyes feed information to the brain and the brain provides us with the illusion of what's out there. I'm still working on how to disorientate myself with helis. Flying them close helps, or at least knowing how far you can fly without getting into bother. Flying at a distance on a sim may help, but it can depend on how you feel on the day as well, so difficult to predict. Not believing your eyes usually works as well. That is if you think it's going in a certain direction and your eyes say it's suddenly gone in another then it's usually better to do nothing. As I said it's not easy to get out of that situation on a heli.
