  • RC/heli related things to do in Florida?

    Hi all,

Trying to get some ideas together for my holiday in Florida next August.
I've already got a skydive booked (thanks the wife!) as my xmas present, but has anyone got experience of such things as rc heli training schools out there, maybe even full size heli "training" or a trial flying lesson, that sort of thing...if you've done anything like this (ie a bit off the standard theme parks track) I'd be really interested in your thoughts/opinions both good and bad. Did all the theme park stuff a couple of years ago and wouldn't mind doing something a bit different this trip.

    Cheers in advance.

I guess it gets trumped by the real skydive but we went to the windtunnel skydive place opposite Wet and Wild at the top of International Drive. Ideal if you fancy re-living the real jump.

We also went to a Rodeo in Kissimmee which was a right laugh and totally off the beaten track (it was around the back of Kissimmee airfield).

There were a few decent modelshops over there within an hours drive, Central Florida Hobbies could be worth a look.

You could also pop a few caps lol with a trip to a range, there's something quite therapeutic about automatic weapons as a stress reliever.

Some years ago I did an aerobatic flight in a WW2 Havard and they also did heli flights at Kissimmee airfield.

Must admit I hadn't thought about that, and I reckon the missus would love a go at that too, cheers!

Oh yes my fab hols destination , go for a half day at the ranges, can be a bit on the exspensive side if our trigger happy, got to use a magnum, ezi, sniper rifle and of course a ak47, poped off around 3000+ rounds for about $250 ( about £125when I was there last).

Some other things to do is wickiver (cant spell) springs were u go for a canoe ride in a natural heated spring for about 30'mins and at the end u come across a big pool were u can swim with turtles and watch the hot air being released from the ground
Crashing is in my blood, were can I get a transfusion

You can never have to many batts

For full-size fixed wing fun Fantasy of Flight is well worth a visit, just off I4 between Orlando and Tampa. There are loads of 1st & 2nd WW aircraft plus some civvy stuff and lots to see plus the opportunity to fly a Stearman. My wife usually isn't a fan of air museums but really enjoyed our day there, check out their website.

It's well worth having an airboat ride, we've been to Boggy Creek and had a good time. Gatorland is well worth a visit too, it's much more homely & laud back than the theme parks and there are hundreds of gators there, some very large.
