  • Switch Glo Pro UnderVolts

My OS50 has been getting hard to start, thought it was all down to cold weather but now that its warmed up to +7 here its just as bad.

Checking the glow I've found that the plug is not heating the entire length of the coil, only about 75% of the coil is visably hot and the hot section is a dull red.

I suspect the switch glo pro is undervolts but I can't measure it because it cuts out with no load. Under load it reads 0.26v which can't be right.

Regulator is at a constant 6.1V

Tried a new plug but the same result.

Does this suggest the switch glo pro is dead or is there someway of checking it for sure?

    Thanks

Aren't glow plugs meant to operate at 1.5v ? Most single cell, rechargable remote glow starters are rated at 1.2v so in or around 1.5v when fully charged..

may be wrong bit it's the figure I have in my mind..

Coincidently I have just replaced the Align 2in1 (I also tried a new plug which made no difference) on my 600n for the very same reason but I have yet to fly it to see if the starting issues have been resolved, however when testing between the old 2in1 and the new, the glow plug seemed to glow much better with the new one..

Which firmware version have you got?

I was wondering as V6 lists 'increased glow intensity' as one of the new features.

I'll have to look - is it possible to upgrade the firmware?

Yes, but it is a return to the manufacturer unfortunately.

I;ve been having the same problem with the green version of the swirch glo since i bought it 2 years ago. If theres an updated version that works even better I would love to know!

Sounds like you've got the original Switchglo, the Switchglo Pro does have one or two updates over the older one. most useful probably is the ability to set it to respond to negative channel settings not just positive.
