  • Fly the nose or fly the tail

I was told today that I was crazy flying he nose of the heli. Someone said that right hand rudder on the TX should move the tail to the right. I find that wrong! I prefer to place myself IN the heli, and if I give right stick, the helis NOSE goes to the right.

What's right and whats wrong? Any reason for chosing to fly the tail?

The nose is were it all happens around (well actualy it's the mast, but there you go) don't watch the tail it will confuse you.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

    And a DX8 too

Agreed, thanks JameZ. I think flying the nose is the way to go... Flying the tail when it's side one will be a nightmare... I guess because I am learning the nose, but hey..

They must be in from "Down under"....

TX Rudder Right = Nose Right period.

There is a term that when flying backwards either upright or inverted you fly the tail, but that has nothing to do with the Tx rudder setup.

I'm sure I saw finlessbob mentioning that some people fly the tail, so if they push right rudder stick, the tail goes right? I thought a very small minority of people prefer it.

            Hey Craig

Well done re getting the Raptor in the air.

Re what to fly, for me it becomes really important to fly the nose when one gets into aerobatics and 3D manouvoures. A simple think like a banked circut with a heading hold gyro requires co-ordination between aileron and rudder. Flying the tail in that instance is going to get me very confused.
I've got a perfect flying record - I've not left one up there yet!

I've never found anyone yet with a heli setup that was for the tail....I reckon the poll speak's for itself.

I can't vote on this poll because I fly the heli as a whole. I don't specifically fly the nose or the tail.

If you're in forward flight and you move the tail to the right the heli's going to fly to the left,it'd be a bit confusing.
You wouldn't expect to put left rudder in to yaw to the right with a plane.

I voted nose, but when I was learning to set up I once made a mistake of setting the tail (flying by the tail) I did not realize for a while but it did seem harder to fly......The again I don't suppose Piccolos are a proper mans heli though!

I find that when I started I was concentrating on hovering nose out and ended up watching the tail too much.

When flying around now, I tend to look at different cue points at different times as the heli changes orientation; sometimes the disc, the skids, the boom, the canopy etc.

But generally speaking, for rudder input I'm watching where the nose is pointing in forward flight (cos thats all I can do)

Just had thought, it is like what some said on this thread earlier, I fly buy the mast push the stick right makes the heli goes clockwise and push it left makes the heli goes anti clock wise so it would be wrong for me to say I fly by the nose, it is like all my flying I either go that way or this way.

No left or rights in my book.
