  • Thrust bearings.

    I mean, dose it matter which way the race goes? the videos all tell me to face the outerrace (open side) towares the head, but the instructions show the other way.

    Dose it make any difference to the performance which way they are built? And how much grease should you put in?

    The bearings should face the head to prevent grease being forced out of the race. I think this is correct,,, i should bloody know by now I pack mine full with thrust bearing grease

      The races, the shiney flat round bits with the grove in, are not the same outside diameter. One is slightly smaller than the other. On the align thrust bearings one is marked IN and the other OUT (or at least one is marked).

      The cage which carries the balls has a groove one side and not the other.
      I fill the groove with grease and put that toward the middle - so the rotation of the head throws the grease into the groove. However its probably not critical which way round the cage and balls are fitted.
