  • Nose in and first loops

    has anyone got any tips on how to make nose in hovering any easier as i cant to get my head round it, tried yesterday but got it big time wrong and ended up in an inveted hover some how managed to flip it back over and get it back in one peice

    the good bit is that i did my first loops though, after finding out that my heli will go inverted i thought that i would try a few. ok so the first one was a bit messy but they got a bit better.

    Hi Cali, i did my first nose in hover last week, and i achieved it by coming in toward me very slowly, and then gradually bringing the heli to a halt. held it for about 10-15 seconds, which seemed like ages, and then spun it round and flew away. chuffed or what.

      Hi Kwickkwack
      nice one on the nose in, ill have to give you method a go, i was trying it from slow piros and it probably didnt help that ther was keen breeze so holding in one place wasnt easy

        Can you hold a steady and continuous hover side on from both sides?

        That's step one.

        Then move it around a bit more, say 30 degrees ish and keep practicing until it's second nature. Make sure you can do it both ways before going to 60 degrees further around, and do the same. Finally, you'll be fully nose in, and be able to approach the 'full nose-in' position from both sides, and fly out in both directions.

        It's a tough one to crack from both ways. Most people are handed, and if you watch them fly, they always do this sort of thing one or the other way around.

        If you can nail it both ways, then it will make you a good flyer, because you will be confident at viewing and controlling the helicopter in all the upright positions.

        When practising all this stuff, be sure of one thing - that you always have an easy and confident escape route in case things go a bit pear shaped - make sure you can hit the sticks quickly and confidently to get it back into your comfort zone every time - say tail-in and a safe height.

        Then you can try again!

          I found for me that taking lazy '8' then into proper '8's getting used to the differing angles of the heli from both side and the respective inputs helped. Then moved onto a cuban '8' flying straight at me very slowly then as Kwickkwack said I started to top the 8 at the cross over then hover for a few sec's then moved on.

          The quickest and cheapest is to get the sim out obviously......

              I don't think cuban 8 the right name for it, just imagine an 8 but more squared so rather than having the traditional cross over as per an 8 you would fly down a centerline and bank off right as you get to you, then a square circuit and back down the centerline and then bank off left for another circuit on the opposite side.....

                I think a cuban 8 is a verticaly flown 8 rather than a horizontaly flown 8, so model passes in front, in a slight up ward climb, pull up to half loop, half roll at the top, descending, as model passes in front then pull up into half loop, half roll at the top, and descend, for a full cuban 8
                -I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

                A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
                A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
                And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

                And a DX8 too

                    thanks for your advice

                    i will try what has been sugested and see what feels like it would work

                    i'm going to keep trying as this is my one big goal for this year

                      Just for your information Strictly speaking this is a cuban 8...

                      Half loop at one end followed by an inverted descent at about 45'
                      Half way down the descent, half roll to non inverted mainting the descent.
                      Half loop at the other end, followed by a half roll half way down the opposite descent.

                      If the eight is symetrical, the rolls should be in front of the pilot and at half the height of the loops!

                      Just thought you'd like to know, but I dont think its a good basis for learning to hover nose in
