  • Battery's and the cold.

How are you finding your batteries are behaving in this freezing minus something weather.

I found by keeping them in the warm running car then flying straight away hardly any difference but today I took them out of the car and before most flight for one reason or another left 4 of them for about 5 mins before I flew. These I noticed shorter flight times, anywhere between 30-45 secs.

    How's yours coping.

Btw this was on the 550 so they were 6s 5000's on their own. Did not run the srimok today

Hi Ben, -5 here today and no real difference. Big Fat Hot water bottle wrapped in a large towel sitting on the passenger seat with you battery box on top with lid closed.

As for charging my chargers/supplies are in a alloy case allowing me to shut the lid maintaining battery temp whilst charging via a genny.

I did not take the charger to the field today as it was too cold too be over there too long.

Powerwise I saw hardly any difference also but why would the cold make them discharge quicker?

But seriously I thought I might see some issues with them but whether that is because these new batts are better at dealing with these colder temperatures than lipo's of old who knows but so far so good

I'm off to the field tomorrow - probably - so think I will put the batts in a cool box with a hot water bottle in it!!

I haven't really noticed any change. My 270cycle revo is very tired & it's hard to tell if it's suffering because of the cold. Occasionally i may put them in the footwell of the van with the heater on full blast but that's not often.

No difference, because my batteries are in the heater box before flight.
