changing servo conectors

hi people after deciding to clean up the wireing on my cx 250se after carefully removing the servo plugs(the plastic bit) to thread the heat shrink on i find that the plugs wont stay on the wires they can be pulled out easyly even new plugs doo it, with the original metal conectors ,whats the difference between the 2 types of servo conectors futaba and jr, this is doing my head in

Hi I am guessing that when you removded the wire out of the plastic plug you pushded down a small tag on the crimp ( long thin square bit stops the wire splaying out) It sounds like the small tag has lost its spring, very gentle lift the tag up, so it is at a slight angle pointing backwards to the direction it goes inro plug. Hopefully it will now slide and the tag will click into place bit like a ratchet. As for the difference between the 2 types of servo conectors Futaba and JR no idea cant help you. I am sure some else can help you on here.

The pins are the same, so as described above you've probably just bent the locking tab too far down.

There are actually 3 different plastic parts in common use, futaba, jr and universal.

i thought there was 2 types so that would explain why the plastic bits wernt interchangable bending the tabs down works but not always, bean having to recrimp new ones, real easy with just long nose plyers thanks for the reply guys ive now got some idea wats wrong ive got the giro,tail and esc to doo next

The only difference i know of it that there is a small interferance lug on one end of the servo plug to stop it being inserted incorrectly , i usually file these off , other than this i know of no other differences. Although im sure someone will be along soon that will know

Really not a lot of difference these days, especially since Futaba started bevelling the edges of their connectors like JR so you only had to cut off the orientation tab down one side of the connector if you want to fit Futaba into JR/Hitec.

If you have an older Futaba connector then you may need to bevel the bottom edges slightly as well as remove the tab.

JR/Hitec will just fit straight into Futaba but there is no orientation mechanism so make sure you have them the right way up.

the thing that made my brain hurt was that i cant change between the diferent plastic bits without lots of messin about .after recrimping things went togather with no problem ive tried cutting off the lugs but make a mess (got arthrits and working on a 250 is a real challenge ) the rewards are worth it

No pin differences on any of them, just the plastic plug shape.

Also my designations were not really right either.

The 3 types are the standard Futaba which has the tab down the side, the JR/Hitec (also referred to as universal) which has no tab and bevelled edges on the bottom and finally the Futaba type with the tab down the side and the edges already bevelled.

It used to be that you would have to cut off the tab and then bevel the edges on the Futaba to get it to fit a JR socket but with the pre-bevelled version you just have to cut off the tab.
