6" of snow in Bolton. can't get the car off the estate but not bothered as I finnished work yesterday for christmas and not back till the 4th of Jan.

About 8inches of snow in Preston, But not a flake on the Ground at Barnsley where the shop is located (so far)

That is, perhaps, because you understand neither what goes on at an airport nor what it takes to deem an aircraft unsafe to fly.

Trust me, none of these decisions to either close an airport or cancel a flight are taken light-heartedly.

If somebody that knows more than you makes a decision that putting to the skies is unsafe, trust me you should trust them.

I depend on LHR being open for my regular business trips so I often get caught out on the occasions where this happens but I'm still not sure what more they can do when virtually every one of the 200 gates has 30 tons of snow and a frozen aircraft parked at it, while temperatures remain below zero ...

I also rely on the airports as my international courier business depends on em but what can you do! it's a shame that England and Scotland can't deal with snow !

Worked at Heathrow as a book-in clerk many moons ago and like previous comments have stated,the decision to close is not taken lightly,,

Truth of the matter though is that we (UK) are simply not geared up to handle the change in weather, other countries are better equipped and are used to this,
